St Georges Church Hyde Welcome to the St George's Parish Church Hyde page, we're so pleased you stopped by. We offer a variety of worship styles on Sunday mornings.

Like all church families we are a very mixed bunch but the thing that glues us together is the love of Christ for each and everyone of us without exception. The 9:15am service is traditional with hymns sung to organ accompaniment and both Prayer Book and Common Worship liturgy. The 10:45am service is much more contemporary in style with more modern worship songs, led by a music group and a much gr

eater degree of informality all round. It’s alongside this later service that we run our Sunday School for Primary School aged children. We have ramped access to the building, a loop system for those with hearing aids, large print service orders and toilet and baby changing facilities on site. Warden Sue and our resident scientist Gavin have had an exciting time in Durham receiving their Scientists in Congregations awards.

They shared about the projects they are leading in our church and beyond. They met two dozen more of their fellow awardees, exchanging ideas and enthusiasm. The aim of all the projects is to help the church embrace and enjoy science as a part of Christian living rather than as something to be feared.

At St George's our award here is to set up a Science Club that will include monthly sessions for kids, science events for the community and support other local activity.

Many thanks to the team at the Equipping Christian Leadership in an Age of Science (ECLAS) project for both the awards, grants and their hospitality over the last two days!

It was wonderful to welcome you all to our Solar Eclipse Watch Party this evening. Thank you for coming! ☀️🌙

More than a 120 people gathered to witness this spectacular event.

Thank you to Go Stargazing for the solar eclipse glasses we were able to give away to everyone and the Scientists in Congregations scheme for the grant which provided our telescope.

Great advice here for viewing today's solar eclipse! We'll have several of these methods to hand for you to try at our Eclipse Watch Party including robotic solar telescopes, solar eclipse sunglasses to share (from the amazing Go Stargazing - thank you!) and the more crafty kind thst we can help you put together.

We'll be watching the eclipse from 6-8pm so pop by, look up and see something amazing.

Remember to bring hats, suncream and a chair to seat in if you can. It is promising to be a scorcher out there today! We will have refreshments and the church open for you to cool off in as needed. 🙂
