The first Sunday of every month is an All Age service
The 2nd Sunday is our Communion service OUR VISION STATEMENT: -
We acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Lord; the one head of the Church; and the Saviour of all humanity. We give thanks that we are joined to God and to each other. We confess our oneness in Christ as individuals and as Christ's people. We covenant together to seek and to do God's wil
l for ourselves and for our Churches, that we may better serve our neighbours, our community and the world. OUR BACKGROUND: -
The United Church Marsden was formed by the United Reform Church and the Methodist Churches of Marsden joining together in the 1960's, when the Methodist Church in Brougham Road was no longer viable. There has been a long history of Non- conformist worship in Marsden since the early 18th century. The Methodist founder, John Wesley visited Marsden in 1746, but the first Methodists started meeting around the turn of the 19th century in a house in 'Planks' - where Wessen Court is now. The first Methodist Chapel was built in 1824 on Brougham Road and was replaced by a larger 2 storey building in 1871 (this is where the Infant School is now). The United Reform Church (originally The Congregational Church) began when a group broke away from the traditional church to follow a less formal style of worship, this group started meeting in a place known as the 'Upper Room' at The Green and is believed to have been above a shop in the Village. The first Chapel opened in 1807 and was capable of seating 320 people - this was replaced in 1858 by the second Chapel. The existing Chapel built in 1931 was modified in 2000. The Chapel size was halved and this made way for a multi-purpose hall - the upper rooms remain and are used for Junior Church and storage. Local organisations regularly using the Hall at present are Scouts, Rainbows, Unity Voices Choir and the WI.
