When you realise you have a lot to be thankful for, particularly as Volunteers’ Week comes to a close.

Here’s a few pictures from the churchyards to demonstrate why!

The bells for yesterday’s wedding sounded amazing too!

Thank you to all our volunteers - as a community we are truly blessed!

This Volunteers’ Week we give thanks for the many volunteers (present and past) who help out in many different ways either in church, in the Bell tower or in both of our extensive churchyards.

Thank you to the parochial church council members, Lay Reader and Pastoral Ministers, the deanery synod representatives, the secretary, the treasurer, the vergers, the flower arrangers, refreshment makers, the cake bakers and biscuit makers, the music makers, the cleaners, the brass rubbers and keepers of the linen.

Thank you to the bell ringers, the new trainees, the Tower Captain and keepers of the belfry who herald principal services and mark key historic events.

Thank you to our churchyards team who work in all weathers throughout the year to keep our churchyards looking amazing - together with our adopt-a-gravers, the Burial Ground Management System volunteers and Burton Environment Group - BEG.

We give thanks to our retired clergy who lead services, work with the schools and support life events, and help our vicar on our spiritual mission throughout the year.

We give thanks especially to all those businesses for their continued support and those who have made us their charity partner and recognise what the church is trying to do in the community - Almond Fashion and Normans Restaurant

We also thank our local schools who maintain the decades long relationships with the church - Highburton C.E. First Academy, Kirkburton CE (VA) First School and Kirkburton Middle School.

We especially thank Kirkburton History Group for being custodians of the village archives and linking us and our significant and major parish church into their continuing work.

Our strengthening links with Kirkburton and Highburton Community Association, the Kirkburton Uniformed Groups and The Kirkwood Shop - Kirkburton demonstrate the power of volunteering in our villages and the collective work we do to improve village life.

There are many opportunities which will be coming up for people with local links and specialist skills so please do come forward when the opportunities arise.

A lot of work is getting done already amongst those mentioned above.

Volunteering is not exclusive so imagine what could be achieved with even more volunteers?

Thank you everyone and those not mentioned above.

We sincerely appreciate everything you all do!

At 6pm this evening there is a lay led Encounter Service at Kirkburton Church focussed on the readings for the festival of Pentecost.

The Encounter service at Kirkburton is a chance for you to channel your spirituality in a holy place where worship has been held on the same site for over a thousand years, albeit in different buildings.

It’s a quiet, calming reflective service for all.

Hope to see you there.

We share this prayer from the Church of England:

Gracious God,
we thank you for the life of Queen Elizabeth II,
for her Christian witness, compassion, and fortitude.
As we mark the centenary of her birth,
help us, inspired by her example,
to serve you faithfully in our own day;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

These words are offered for all who may wish to use them, of any faith or none, as we remember her life.

Kirkburton Bellringers:
April Ringing times update.
