A prayer for children preparing to go back to school.

O God of new beginnings,
As our children begin a new school year,
We ask You to fill their hearts
With the joy of friendship
And their minds
With the wonder of learning new things.

You are the God of science
And the God of art,
The God of equations
And the God of song and PE.
Be with them,
As they embark on this new adventure.

Give them courage
To extend kindness to teachers,
Fellow students,
And even themselves,
especially for those who feel anxious.

Give them concentration
And a holy kind of mischief
That keeps them asking why.
May they be curious and compassionate.

We thank You for the gift of education,
We know it is a privilege
Not all children have.
Amen.

A big thank you to Revd Julian Hemstock who came to preach and preside for us today as part of our ongoing 60th anniversary celebrations.

Julian invited us to reflect on how Peter, having just been trusted with the amazing job of being the rock on which God's church would be built, still got things drastically wrong by telling Jesus he didn't have to die and suffer. Peter thought he had a better plan than God!

How often do we do that?

We can be doing really well when God's plan aligns with our own. We can love the people we find it easy to love, but when we realise God's plan is for us to love those we find it difficult to love too, it all becomes a little more tricky.

God invites us to love our enemies, to bless our enemies, its hard but that's the invitation,

'If anyone would come after me, let them deny themself and take up their cross and follow me.'

I wonder; who do you find it difficult to love and what would it mean to bless them?

Tomorrow is our Informal Eucharist service at 10am. We are excited to worship our amazing God through song, a reading from the bible, prayer and sharing in the Eucharist (bread and wine). There is even a game of guess who!

After the service stay for our Teddy Bears picnic, bring your favourite cuddly toy and a packed lunch, drinks and games provided.

We look forward to worshipping with you.

Yesterday, to kick off our 60th year of worship, we had the pleasure of hearing Revd. Ian Murray preach on the parable of the sower. A powerful reminder that Jesus invites us to 'sow to grow' God's Kingdom of love, peace, hope and joy.

We also had the priviledge of praying for Y6 pupils from Flying High Academy and Broomhill Junior School who are preparing to transition to secondary, an exiciting step but one which can also come with worries and concerns. As a church we will be praying for each student by name over the coming weeks.

We were also blessed with a huge delivery of fresh home grown vegetables and flowers by a local gardener and friend of the church.

Thank you Father, for blessing us with your generosity, thank you Jesus that you challenge us with your word, and thank you Holy Spirit that you are by our side in every situation, exciting and daunting. Amen

Yesterday Caroline preached a powerful and challenging reflection on responding to God's call to 'have no fear'.

We were invited to think about the things that scared us. Do they restrict us from living life in all its fulness or maybe they stop us following Jesus's example in how we respond.

Doing the right thing is often not the easy option, but Jesus reassures us, 'do not be afraid' to travel the difficult path.

I wonder what fears you carry?

I wonder what challenging decisions you will face today?

What will you allow to influence your response, fear or love?

Sometimes the greatest teachers are our young people. Kade gave me this after last Sunday's service, I have it on the wall. Today, after a busy week, I really needed to be reminded of who God was, of his constant presence, care and of his never ending love for each and everyone of us.

Maybe you need to hear this too.
