We are delighted that our 2026 Organ Recital Series will begin on Monday 29 June, 1pm.

International recitalist, Alessandro Bianchi, from Cantù, Italy will perform a selection of works including the 'Scherzo in G minor' by Bossi, Hielscher’s monumental 'Variations on Veni Creator Spiritus' and Duruflé’s 'Prélude et fugue sur le nom d’Alain'.

Alongside all the talented organists who will perform through the series, we are very excited that the amazing Victoria Ulriksen will perform a special evening recital on Friday 21 August before heading to perform in Westminster Abbey.

All concerts are free to attend, and any retiring donations go to the ongoing maintenance of the Minster organ.

It was lovely to meet Jonathan Mayes, CEO of the Cathedral Music Trust on Day 47 of his cycling pilgrimage around the major churches and cathedrals across the country. Jonathan popped in for the first part of our service today en route from Hull to Wakefield Cathedral via Beverley Minster, Howden Minster and Selby Abbey.

All are welcome to join the Churches in Howden as they mark Good Friday with an ecumenical Walk of Witness through the town.

Gather at 10:00 in the Sacred Heart RC church on Knedlington Road, or join us en route. Ending with refreshments in the Minster.

Please join us at Howden Minster as we mark Maundy Thursday with a service of Holy Communion commemorating the Last Supper.

The choir will sing ‘I give you a new commandment’ by Peter Nardone, which combines the commandment Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper (“Love one another as I have loved you”) with the ‘Ubi Caritas’, a traditional Latin hymn for Maundy Thursday.

The service will conclude with the symbolic Stripping of the Altars, as Psalm 22 “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me” is sung.

7.30pm this evening.
