We are holding a Festive Coffee morning by kind permission of Sandra & Gerald Tagg at their home here in the village.

The event will be of a festive theme, serving wonderful homemade cakes & pastries. There will be a home made produce stall to allow you to purchase home made preserves along with cakes & pastries.

As usual there will be a raffle along with other bits & bob (Festive Tombola not for under 18’s).
All the proceeds are towards the upkeep of our beautiful church.

During the past year we have made considerable progress with our list of renovations. We have been fortunate to have our French Drain & Rain Water drains completely replace by a kind donation from Gleeson Homes . This has made a huge difference to our church and finally we believe we are on the pathway to reduce the damp.

Part of the donation by Gleeson Homes to improve community spaces they provided two wonderful new benches too.
We have also now started to renovate our brick floor removing all the algae which was making the floor slippery. We have been fortunate to have help from Probation Service Community Payback to complete this task.

Come along visit our church it will be open and enjoy fantastic homemade refreshments served across the road at Laburnum Farm.

We have plenty of Free off-road parking in Yucca Farm yard- this will all be sign posted.

Please come along we promise you a warm Mareham On The Hill Welcome!

Diane our Church Warden takes her role very seriously. She has expressed her concerns about the Harold Exton kneeler within the church. It has succumbed to a little mice munching over the years.

As she explained family of Exton family are buried in the churchyard and there is no one left who could look after this kneeler.

Diane has between two pieces of sellotape a cutting of the green tapestry thread in her handbag for a number of weeks coming out in many craft venues around the area. Not wishing to give up she checked locally at craft shop here in HORNCASTLE , Horncastle Hobby House.

I witnessed her coming out with a big smile, exact match two small packs under a £1 for them both. A vivid reminder shop locally.

Not being a needlework fanatic until tonight I had not watched her restoration happening but I remembered what a mouse eaten corner it was.
Late into the evening she disappeared for me to find her in her hobby room ( spare bedroom) busy at work on her “Exton kneeler” project. The progress was something like that I had seen on The Repair Shop, Diane explained she had repaired the backing with unravelled string and was now not to far away.

I am very proud of my wife and her commitment to her role as Church Warden, soon it will be finished and returned to our beautiful church .

The renovation of the structure & fabric of our 12th Century Grade 2* listed church is ongoing and a constant financial challenge. We welcome any donation both large or small. When any work is ongoing at our church Diane is there!

Our white church sits on the hill here, with amazing views across the wolds, our churchyard is welcoming to everyone and our paths are regularly tramped by walkers, bird watchers and folk looking for solitude & time to reflect.

We were approached last year by the family of Ronald & June Patchett who were local and had fond affections for our church, they wished to donate a bench in their memory.

After a few months of organising and obtaining the necessary permissions, the bench arrived in the village in January where it was stored by one of the Church Wardens, until the necessary plinth had been constructed in our churchyard.

The said plinth being installed last night Thursday 8th May we transported the bench to it new home and were the first to sit and take the view. Despite the bitter cold wind we just had to sit and enjoy it. Church Warden Diane says “It’s a good sit too” meaning it is nicely shaped to be comfortable to linger.

The PCC at Mareham On The Hill are working hard to improve the community space and add amenities that will add enrichment to everyone’s visits.

Please come along bring a picnic, enjoy the view, listen to the bird song and enjoy the solitude.

We haven’t finished yet there will be more to share in the coming weeks, please follow us to see our news.

Diane Stainton our Church Warden has been nurturing wild flower plants she has grown from seed in her greenhouse.
This week she planted them in part of “Gods Acre” which is our wild flower area.
Now comes the tender nuturning till the plants establish. Here she is seen with her innovative home made trolley with watering kit

Might be watering for a few days as no rain forecast at the moment !

We will keep everyone informed as to the progress.

Bit chilly up there tonight but a wonderful sense of calm & serenity to look out over the fields and remember VE Day and the sacrifice of so many for our freedom !
