Hopeman Baptist Church

Hopeman Baptist Church For 128 years, Hopeman Baptist has been a spiritual anchor to our village and beyond.

Whether you're exploring faith or want to be together with other Christians in a gospel-centred congregation, you are welcome here. For 125 years, Hopeman Baptist Church has been a spiritual anchor in the village and communities beyond. Originally, our founders walked a total of 12 miles to Lossiemouth and back every Sunday to attend the nearest Baptist congregation. In 1898, this devotion to thei

r faith inspired the establishing of their own church; Hopeman Baptist.

Today, several descendants of those founding families still play an active role in the congregation. Because of their faithfulness to obey Lord Jesus Christ and carrying out "His great commission" (Matthew 28 v18-20), families and individuals not only from the village but also from surrounding communities and even other countries (such as United States and South Africa) call Hopeman Baptist their church home.

A Statement from Hopeman Baptist Church

It is with sadness that we share that Naomi and Allan McKinlay are no longer serving as pastors of our church.

We recognise that there has been some confusion and concern in recent days, and we want to offer clarity on this. Naomi and Allan were not dismissed from their roles. Following a period of difficulty within the church, services were suspended while the deacons prayerfully considered the situation and the best way forward.

Immediately after a meeting with the deacons on Thursday 4th of June 2026, Naomi and Allan removed their belongings from the church premises and communicated with members and attendees regarding their position. These messages were not accurate and were intended to cause disruption and upset within the church. We understand that this has been very unsettling for many in our church family.

After much thought, prayer, and careful consideration, and following an EGM on Wednesday 10th of June with the church members, the church has now made the difficult decision to close after 128 years of faithful service to the village. As a result, Naomi and Allan’s roles will come to an end through redundancy as part of that closure process.

Any suggestion that Naomi and Allan had already been dismissed prior to the church’s decision to close is incorrect.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of the life of the church over the years - those who have worshipped, served, prayed, given, volunteered, led, encouraged, and supported the ministry in so many ways. We give thanks for all that has been shared, built, and sown in faith.

This is not the ending any of us would have wished for, and we ask for grace, prayer, and kindness as everyone processes this season in their own way.

With gratitude and prayer,
The deacons and members of Hopeman Baptist Church

This week we will be starting a new series on ‘The “ACTS” of the apostles’
Starting with the upper room.
How Pentecost began with an empty room, ready to be filled with what God wanted to pour out and fill it and all who were within it with - His Spirit.

As we approach Pentecost- are we ready? have we made room within the chambers of our hearts for what God wants to pour out and fill us with ? fresh fire!

It seemed appropriate to share ‘I will make room for you’ by Upper room worship.

God is moving here in Hopeman. We’re seeing signs of growth, new life in Jesus, a fresh hunger for the word of God and the Holy Spirit. 🙌

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17
