This evening at the beautiful parish church of St Laurence at Weston-under-Penyard in the Diocese of Hereford some of us travelled to the ordination of the Reverend Ewan Gillings to the sacred priesthood.
As a deacon, Fr Ewan has always been more than generous with his time for St Petroc’s Church, Hollacombe, whether it be Harvest or our Patronal festival, so it was lovely to travel the road the other way to support him on this very special occasion! Thank you to those that helped in organising and who prepared the post ordination spread at the parish hall afterwards.

And now for the after photos! Barge board east side painted, west side corner pointed in, compost toilet treated with preserver, our recently planted oak and holly rediscovered and drainage gully cleared. Thanking the Lord for the weather he sent us and willing volunteers!

Our monthly maintenance day is well underway today. Paul is prepping the barge boards for painting, Gill is clearing the drain covers around the church, Keith is on pointing and Di on the strimmer!

A huge thank you to Roger & Sara Lawes and family Hannah Fortey for organising a Cider & Pasty Walk last Sunday in aid of St Peter’s Church Thornbury and St Petroc’s Church Hollacombe. Thank you to every who helped and supported the event. They raised a total of £700 which was amazing!

Today we held our Patronal festival of St Petroc with our traditional Mass led by Fr Michael with Rev’d Deacon Ewan and thurifer/boat bearer Peter Hooper followed by a shared lunch and then Benediction led by Fr Alex with Rev’d Deacon Ewan.
Thank you to everyone who supported the festival and baked for the lunch. Gill’s cheese straws and Mel’s flapjacks are always popular!

The Rev’d Deacon Ewan Gillings is soon to be ordained into the Sacred Priesthood by the Bishop of Oswestry on Monday 6th July at 6pm at St Laurence’s at Weston-under-Penyard (Diocese of Hereford).
All of us at Hollacombe wish him the very best for his future in the priesthood and thank him very much for all his support.
