Last November* Alfoxton’s community took a working retreat at Tiratanaloka Ware - the new women’s ordination centre in the making.
Bought from a retiring set of Carmelite nuns, it’s a fantastic site, centred around an early 20th century mock Tudor house, with lovely craft details - and a bedroom for Jesus!
The three of us who drove there in Alfoxton’s battered Ford Transit van had the A-Team theme playing as we arrived at Ware, and I did feel like our training at Alfoxton - an ambitious renovation on a minimal budget! - made us ready to be dropped in situ and just make stuff happen.
There’s a classic photo inside the back of our van, of the essential items we took with us: mattresses to sleep in, PPE/power tools… and musical instruments —> Art is not an optional extra 🎨🎶
Dan, our expert woodsman, brought his tree gear to tend to the arboreal beings on the land.
Others of us were set to trimming and fitting insulation in the top floor, which was good fun.
We got a tour before work started, in our high vis of course!
THANK YOU to the community at Ware for such a warm welcome, for beautiful time practicing together (in the old library), and the chance to gift our help to the impressive project.
