We proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ as found in the bible, by preaching, teaching, in caring relationships, and in a programme of activities for everyone.

Where can we find meaning? Foundation? Substance?

In a world that feels increasingly unstable, these questions echo louder than ever. The bible book of Ecclesiastes meets us in our search, not with easy answers, but with ancient wisdom that leads us to reality, purpose and hope.

Join us as we journey through one of Scripture's most honest books and discover what truly lasts.

We live in anxious times and many of us are prone to worry. Perhaps it’s always been the case but it certainly feels like we live in an age of greater anxiety.

We’ll be in Matthew’s gospel on Sunday mornings this New Year, doing something of a deep dive into worry when we get to chapter 6. We’ll hope to answer many excellent, probing questions …

• Is it ok to worry about some things but not others?

• When does a natural concern about something tip over into something that isn’t so good?

• If St Paul says we shouldn’t be anxious about anything in Philippians 4:6, why on earth does he say he’s anxious in 2:28?

• And how is Jesus’ command for us not to worry in Matthew 6 and Luke 12 even vaguely possible? Isn’t that totally unrealistic and doesn’t that just add to our anxiety?!

In the meantime, here are two consecutive sermons from the HBC archive which may bring some clarity and comfort.

O Come All Ye … to celebrate the joy of Christmas with the Hoddesdon Baptist church family.

We love to welcome new people into the church all year round, but especially at this special time when we celebrate the Creator of all things coming down to be born among us.

Our programme of Christmas celebrations:

Sunday 22 December
-----------------------
All Age Service, 10 – 11am

Carols by Candlelight, 6.30 – 7.30pm
A mix of traditional carols and Christmas readings with a contemporary twist. It will be a warm-hearted evening away from the hectic preparations, leading us into the heart of Christmas. We will then enjoy coffee and mince pies together.

Christmas Day
----------------

All Age Celebration, 10 – 10.45am
A service for all ages as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. A wonderful opportunity for young and old to be reminded of the Christmas story and its timeless message. Consider bringing a gift to open with others; we’ll provide the party poppers!

Sunday 29 December
------------------------

Morning Service, 10 – 11.30am
Including a crèche & children’s programme.

We very much look forward to welcoming you!

Our sermon on The Great Banquet last week reveals that Christians are invited to the wedding feast of the lamb (Revelation chapter 16 v 9) which will be the best party ever. How do we ensure that we are on the guest list? And how can we ensure others receive their invitation too? Take a listen, click the link in the comments.
