Stand Firm Sunday — Know Your Enemy

This week we started Built for the Battle.

We talked about taking our thoughts captive.

We asked, “Who told you that?”

We talked about the power of our words.

And yesterday, we asked, “Who's in your corner?”

But before you go into any battle, you better know who you're actually fighting.

Scripture says:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood...” — Ephesians 6:12

Men, your wife isn't the enemy.

Your kids aren't the enemy.

Your coworker isn't the enemy.

The person who disagrees with you isn't the enemy.

Don't spend your strength fighting the wrong battle.

Satan would love nothing more than for us to attack each other while ignoring the real spiritual battle taking place around us.

So today...

Stand firm.

Pray before you react.

Seek God before you respond.

Fight for people instead of fighting against them.

And remember:

The battle is real. Know your enemy.

Built for the Battle.

Be Bold. Be Strong. Be The One.

Stand Together Saturday — Who's In Your Corner?

Over the years, I can honestly say I've been blessed with a handful of brothers and sisters who are in my corner regardless of the situation.

But make no mistake...Being in my corner doesn't mean they always agree with me.

If I stumble, they'll help me back up.

If I'm wrong, they'll tell me.

If I make a mistake, they'll speak truth to me in love.

Proverbs 27:6 says: “Wounds from a friend can be trusted...”

Standing beside someone doesn't mean approving everything they do.

It means extending the same grace Christ has given us.

It means loving them through the mess.

It means telling them the truth without walking away from them.

Men, we don't need people who disappear the moment we stumble. Those aren't the people I want beside me when the battle comes anyway.

Find people who will love you, challenge you, pray for you, forgive you, and still be standing there when things get messy.

And then...Be that person for someone else.

Who's in your corner? Take time to thank them.

Built for the Battle.

Be Bold. Be Strong. Be The One.

Fantastic Friday — “They Said...”

Over the years as a superintendent, principal, and friend, I've had a lot of people come to me with:

“They said...”

My response became pretty simple:

Who is THEY?

I learned that when someone wouldn't give me a name, many times “they” really meant “I.”

“They said” can become an easy way to gossip, complain, or push an agenda without taking responsibility for our own words.

James gives us a powerful picture:

“Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder...” — James 3:4

Then he reminds us that the tongue is also a small part of the body, but it can have tremendous influence.

So on this Fantastic Friday, I want to celebrate the people who refuse to play that game.

The men and women who speak truth in love.

Who stop gossip instead of spreading it.

Who defend a brother or sister when they're not in the room.

Who are willing to say:

“That's what I think.”

And put their own name behind their words.

Part of being Built for the Battle is realizing that not every battle requires us to attack.

Sometimes being strong means stopping the attack.

Be Bold. Be Strong. Be The One.

The War Within Thursday — Who Told You That?

As we continue Built for the Battle, we need to ask:
Where did some of our negative thoughts come from?

You know the thoughts. I'm not even going to give them power by repeating them.

Sometimes we've believed something for so long that we don't even remember where it started. Maybe it was something said when you were a kid.
A failure.
A divorce.
Getting fired.
Being rejected.
Maybe someone you respected said something years ago...
and you've been carrying their words ever since.

In Genesis, Adam told God he was afraid because he was naked.
God asked: “Who told you that you were naked?” — Genesis 3:11
What a question.
Who told you that?

Men, just because you've believed something about yourself for years doesn't make it true.

That's why we take our thoughts captive. Hold that thought against God's Word.
If it doesn't agree with what God says about you...
STOP AGREEING WITH IT!

The enemy may have been using the same lie for years.
It's time to stop believing it.

Built for the Battle.
Be Bold. Be Strong. Be The One.

TRUTH TUESDAYS - It starts in your Mind

Guys, we're starting a new topic this month: Built for the Battle. And many times, that battle begins in our mind.

I stink.
I'm not good enough.
What if I fail?
Maybe I should just quit.
Sound familiar?

2 Corinthians 10:5 says: “Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

I love the word captive. That's a fighting word.
Paul didn't say hide from the thought. He didn't say ignore it.
He said take it captive!

Many of those negative thoughts were planted in us years ago. Sometimes one word, one failure, or one painful memory can bring them right back.
So when that negative voice starts talking, don't just listen.
Fight back with God's truth.

Say it out loud if you need to:
God loves me.
I was made in His image.
My past does not define me.
God has a purpose for my life.

Men, we have spent enough time agreeing with lies.
Take the thought captive. Replace the lie with truth.

That's how we begin to become bolder, stronger, and more like the man God created us to be.

We were Built for the Battle.

Be Bold. Be Strong. Be The One.

Mission Monday — Now Go Be That Man

For the past month, we've been asking one question:

What does it mean to become the man God created me to be?

We've talked about identity, purpose, obedience, fear, brotherhood, family, and the battles we fight within.

But today is August 31.

Tomorrow we turn the page.

And here's what I've been thinking...

Knowing who God created you to be is one thing. Living like that man when the battle comes is another.

James tells us:

"Do not merely listen to the word... Do what it says."
James 1:22

Men, we can't just talk about it.

We have to live it.

Love your family.

Lead with humility.

Stand for truth.

Pray.

Get into God's Word.

Help a brother who's struggling.

And when you fall, get back up and keep going.

August may be ending, but the mission isn't.

Become the man God created you to be.

And then... Go live like him.

TOMORROW...

Becoming that man was only the beginning.

Because the moment you decide to live differently...

you better be ready for the battle.

Your mind.
Your heart.
Your home.
Your faith.

SEPTEMBER TEASER

NEXT MONTH...

We've spent August talking about becoming the man God created us to be.

In September, we're going to talk about what happens when that man steps into the fight.

Your mind.

Your heart.

Your home.

Your faith.

The battle is real.

And men...

It's time to get ready.

BUILT FOR THE BATTLE

Stand Firm Sunday — Now Live It

All month we've been talking about becoming the man God created us to be.

We've talked about our identity.

Our purpose.

Our families.

Our struggles.

Our need for other men.

And what it means to follow God even when we're not sure where He's leading.

But eventually we have to do more than talk about the man God created us to be.

We have to live like him.

Paul tells us:

"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong."
1 Corinthians 16:13

Men, that's the challenge.

Stand firm when the world tells you to compromise.

Stand firm when temptation comes.

Stand firm when your family needs you.

Stand firm when you're tired.

And stand firm when the battle is happening inside your own mind.

God didn't call us to be perfect men.

He called us to be faithful men.

So as we finish this month, don't just ask:

“Who did God create me to be?”

Ask:

“Am I willing to live like that man?”

Stand firm.

Be Bold. Be Strong. Be The One.

Stand Together Saturday — Fight for Your Family

I've said for years—don't mess with a mama bear and her cubs!

As an educator, I've seen firsthand what happens when a mom gets mad over her kids.

But let me tell you...

Don't mess with my boys or my family either.

Mess with the bull, you get the horns!

Dads, think about it.

If someone tried to hurt your family, you'd fight like crazy to protect them.

But here's the truth:

Our families are already under attack.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood..."
Ephesians 6:12

Our kids are being bombarded through their phones and social media with po*******hy, s*x, violence, substances, and messages that compete with what we're teaching them at home.

So why aren't we fighting harder?

Men, be present.

Know what your kids are seeing.

Set boundaries.

Talk to them.

Pray with them.

Teach them God's Word.

And let's stand together as fathers and fight for our families.

Don't be passive. Be present.

Be Bold. Be Strong. Be The One.
