Tilehouse Street Baptist Church

Tilehouse Street Baptist Church Tilehouse Street is a medium sized Baptist Church in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. We have about 40 members with an average morning congregation of about the same.

We have a long history with records dating from 1669 and a chair in the pulpit given by John Bunyan, but we are a modern-day fellowship. We seek to worship and serve God in ways relevant to today. Founded in the late 17th century by followers of John Bunyan. Tilehouse Street Baptist Church has been proclaiming the Christian gospel to the people of Hitchin ever since. 6 March: This year's World Day of Prayer service in Hitchin was hosted by St. Mark's and led by a wonderful group of women representing nearly every denomination in the town. The material on the theme "I will give you rest, come" was written by women of Nigeria. THS was well represented in the congregation with six members in attendance. A very inspiring afternoon.

8 Feb: At today's service we used some of the CTBI material for Racial Justice Sunday. We also used some jigsaw pieces differently coloured and with a positive message written on from Micah 6:8 to acknowledge how we can love our neighbour. It turned out that as we didn't all colour the pieces on the same side they don't all fit together! The congregation came up with some great thoughts as to what this might tell us about following Jesus.

11 Jan: Throughout Advent and Christmas we have been blessed by this stable that was constructed by the husband of one of our members and we have used it every week ... but now the figures have all been removed and on Thursday the stable will be taken apart. Thank you Carol and Steve. (And, yes, I have snuck into the scene!)

31 December: Sam posted an excellent photo of the four windows expressing peace, love, joy and hope. To finish, the centre doors were decorated for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We may be on the threshold of 2026 but it is good to remember that we continue to celebrate the birth of the Christ-child who goes before us not only into the new year but is also with us each and every day. And so may your 2026 be filled with peace, love, joy and hope.

Dec 24: Wishing everyone peace, love, hope and joy this Christmas Eve.
