Tilehouse Street Baptist Church

Tilehouse Street is a medium sized Baptist Church in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. We have about 40 members with an average morning congregation of about the same.

We have a long history with records dating from 1669 and a chair in the pulpit given by John Bunyan, but we are a modern-day fellowship. We seek to worship and serve God in ways relevant to today. Founded in the late 17th century by followers of John Bunyan. Tilehouse Street Baptist Church has been proclaiming the Christian gospel to the people of Hitchin ever since. 25 Aug: Long-time member, Mary Brown, passed away earlier in the year. Our Minister, Rev Jane Robson wasn't able to conduct her funeral at the time, but returned from retirement to lead an informal service of thanksgiving (and cream tea).

26 July: We're pleased to confirm that at the Special Church Meeting today we appointed Rev Graham Clarke as Moderator.
Graham is the ideal person to guide us through the process of calling a new minister to succeed Rev Jane Robson who retired earlier in the year.
Graham is pictured when he led our morning worship on the 5th July.

Coffee Morning Thursday 25 June. We'll be running our usual open Church coffee morning despite the hot weather. The Church is quite a bit cooler so come along.

3 Jun: The miniature chair given to Jane on her retirement has gone on holiday. It's made it to Koala Lumpu airport.

17 May: Since the retiremnt of our minister, Jane Robson, we have welcomed guest preachers to lead our Sunday morning worship. We are blessed that there is such a pool of spiritual talent we can call on in our neighbourhood. Here are the recent leaders we welcomed in May. See captions on each picture.

5 Apr: Wonderful Easter Day with Rev Jane Robson leading her last service before retirement.

3 April: The usual Churches Together in Hitchin Good Friday service had to be held in St Mary's. the parish church. Our Rev Jane Robson was preaching as part of her final weekend as THS's Minister.

3 April: Our Tenebrae service is ready. It was good to share in this time of quiet reflection with about 20 others and to hear the account of Jesus' last few hours read from the gospel according to Matthew.

29 Mar: To mark her retirement Rev Jane threw a hog roast party. The hall was packed with guests from local churches, Jane's home church in Rugby and many friends from all over. Special thanks to the team from Phase who helped with the setup, serving and clear down.
