An important update for our Hitchin neighbours

At Christchurch, we believe in looking out for our neighbours. For over nine years, we have maintained a life-saving Automated External Defibrillator (AED) inside our building. We are pleased to announce that we have now moved this equipment to the outside of the church, making it available to the entire community. By making this accessible 24/7, we are significantly increasing the chance of survival for anyone in our local area.

A message from Maggie Hackney:
Christchurch has always been pioneering with providing emergency first aid training for the Church Family and those responsible for the various groups that take place in church, and have had an AED inside for over nine years. Now anyone in the vicinity who has a suspected cardiac arrest will have an increased chance of survival thanks to the decision to bring this life saving equipment outside for the benefit of our community.

Helping someone who is suspected to have a cardiac arrest will only work if the following chain of events happens in the following order:
- Early recognition that the person might be in cardiac arrest.
- Call 999
- Early effective CPR to buy time until defibrillator arrives.
- Early defibrillation to restart the heart.
- Specialist care in hospital.
