The history of our church:
St Peter's Church is in Atherton Road, Hindley, Wigan. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Wigan, the archdeaconry of Warrington and the diocese of Liverpool. St Peter's is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II list building. The church was built in 1863–66 and designed by the Lancaster architect E.G. It cost £9,507 (£770,0

00 as of 2015), and provided seating for 689 people. St Peter's is constructed in rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof. Its plan consists of a five-bay nave with a clerestory, north and south aisles, a chancel with a southwest vestry, north and south porches, and a northeast tower with a broach spire. The tower has diagonal buttresses, a stair turret to the east, and a three-light north window. The bell openings are paired, each having two lights and louvres. The spire has two tiers of lucarnes, the lower tier having two lights. Along the walls of the aisles are two-light windows containing Geometric tracery. Between the windows are buttresses with gables, the cornices of which are carved with animals. Along the clerestory are pairs of two-light windows. At the west end of the nave is a four-light window flanked by gabled buttresses. There are two-light windows at the west ends of the aisles. The east window has three lights, and is also flanked by gabled buttresses. In the south wall of the chancel is a two-light window with a trefoil head. Interior
The arcades are carried on round piers with crocketted capitals. The wagon roof is supported by separate corbelled shafts. In the church are two wrought iron chandeliers. The font is round and is carried on a quatrefoil column. Its bowl is carved with roundels. The stained glass includes a window dated 1881 to the memory of a nine-year-old child; it incorporates his photograph twice. The organ is at the west end. It has three manuals and was made by Edmund Schulze in 1873. It was rebuilt in 1903 with pneumatic action by Thomas Pendlebury of Leigh. In 1966 J. Cowen of Liverpool added a detached electric console and more stops. In 1977 most of the alterations made by Cowan were reversed by the Pendlebury Organ Company of Cleveleys, who also added a new detached drawstop console. The organ has been awarded a Historic Organ Certificate, Grade II. This organ is no longer in a playable condition, and the church currently uses a digital computing organ built by Hugh Banton in 2004. There is a ring of eight bells, all cast in 1866 by Mears and Stainbank of the Whitecapel Bell Foundry.

Good morning everyone.......🥰

Christianity is not simply a matter of being respectable.

Anyone can be a Christian because Christianity centres on hope, forgiveness, and love. It offers a fresh start, no matter past mistakes. Believers find purpose and community through worship and mutual support. Ultimately, becoming a Christian is not just about being a good person; it’s a personal choice to follow Jesus and His teachings.

Good morning everyone..........................🥰

Christianity is not simply a matter of being respectable; it is a faith of love, repentance, forgiveness, and TRANSFORMATION.

In the Bible, transformation means changing your life from following worldly ways to living in a way that pleases God.

She found the chrysalis on a Thursday, tucked against the fence post at the back of the garden. She checked it every morning for eleven days – sometimes twice. Nothing happened. On the twelfth day she came inside upset, certain it was dead. “It has been so long,” she said. I told her to keep watching.

On the fourteenth day, she ran inside shouting before she even got through the door. The butterfly was out, opening and closing its wings in the morning light, drying itself for flight. She had not missed a single day of waiting. And the waiting had made the moment everything.
Transformation is rarely as photogenic as the butterfly. But it is always as real.

10.00am. Morning Prayer followed by refreshments

Christianity is not simply a matter of being respectable; it is a faith of love, repentance, FORGIVENESS, and transformation.

Forgiveness is at the heart of Christianity. But can we be forgiven? And can we forgive others? Forgiveness can also be one of the hardest things to extend to others—especially when we feel we’ve been deeply wronged.

The Weight of the Stone
Daniel had carried the stone for years—not a real one, but the weight of his brother James’s betrayal.
One Sunday, the pastor’s words cut through his bitterness: “Forgiveness is releasing the debt, because Christ released yours first.”
That afternoon, Daniel stood at James’s door. “I forgive you,” he said simply. James’s eyes filled, and Daniel walked away lighter. The stone was gone—not because the past had changed, but because he had placed it in God’s hands.

A note for those who didn't spot the humour in the post promoting our Jigsaw Festival and thought we were being 'political', we weren't. 😁 The photograph was taken from a leaflet pushed through someone's door. Seeing the person sitting on the wall of our church and remembering our previous Jigsaw Festival, this was a great opportunity to use it to advertise the new Festival in October. It certainly caught your attention. Your political views are your own. It would be good to see you in October (or at any time, actually!)😁
