When Elaine first reached out, she was living in a shed at the bottom of her auntie’s garden. She’d recently lost her job, her relationship had broken down, and she felt like everything was unravelling at once. After a conversation at her GP surgery, she decided to self‑refer to Vennture.
Our Response worker met with Elaine and quickly learned that although she urgently needed safe housing, she wasn’t considered a priority need. Even so, there were practical ways we could still help. We helped her access food parcels and somewhere safe to shower, giving her dignity and breathing space while she figured out her next steps.
Elaine also shared that her mental health had taken a hit. She wanted someone to talk to, so we supported her to access counselling through a local service.
Money was tight, and applying for financial support felt overwhelming. With gentle encouragement, she agreed to register for benefits, something she’d avoided out of pride, and this became the first step toward rebuilding stability.
Looking forward, we helped Elaine access a free training course so she could apply for work. Together, we updated her CV and supported her to apply for a job that also offered accommodation.
Within three months, Elaine moved into employment and into stable housing.
We walking alongside Elaine until she felt confident to move forward on her own.
