Happy Easter from all at Stondon Baptist Church. The cross that we used for our Good Friday walk and service was decorated with flowers this morning and is now out the front of the church for all to see.

Items for meditation at our Good Friday service this morning. This was accompanied by the first part of the Kyrie Eleison (Lord have Mercy) from the Armed Man mass for peace by Karl Jenkins:-

A palm cross links us to Palm Sunday Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on a donkey when he was hailed by the crowds and welcomed
A plain wooden cross of Olive wood links us to the scene in the garden of Gethsemane before Jesus was taken to be tried
A jewelled cross reminds of the majesty of Jesus and his kingship

The nails are long and large. These are polished and new - those used for crucifixion would have been rough and made by a smith but nevertheless they still speak of violence

This thorn is from an Acacia tree near Eilat in southern Israel. It represents the crown of thorns that was placed on Jesus head as he was mocked by those who held him captive as mentioned in John ch 19 v2. In many artistic depictions he is shown wearing a crown of thorns when on the cross itself

These dice remind us of the soldiers who split his belongings between them and then cast lots for his garment even as he was dying on the cross

We know it is still 2024 but as the monthly coffee morning in the hall is usually on the first Thursday of the month please note that in January 2025 it will be on the second Thursday morning which is the 9th. Back to the usual week from February.
Everyone is most welcome to drop in for coffee/tee and biscuits/cake and chat.

Stondon Baptist Church services for January 2023.
Our January services are listed below. Please note we are joining in services elsewhere on 1st and 8th January so no service at our church on those Sundays. On 29th January the service will be over Zoom only (please email [email protected] for the link if you want to join). The services on 15th & 22nd will be in the hall behind the church.
