Whose world are we living in? 🌍

It’s a question Genesis 1–2 answers with remarkable clarity:

God’s.

But what does that mean for who is in charge, who we are, and what our lives are for?

On Sunday we explored the opening chapters of the Bible and discovered that creation is good, humanity is made in God’s image, and the destination is rest.

There is a Hebrew word that appears only three times in the whole Old Testament.

The first time, it is in the curse of Eden. The second, it is sin crouching at Cain’s door.

The third time is today. And it has been turned inside out.

Love strong as death. A fire this book has been holding back all week. And a question: can Solomon’s wealth buy it?

This is the landing. Five minutes. Worth it.

You have heard this scene already.

A woman searches the city streets at night for the one she loves. Almost word for word the same poem.

Except the ending is reversed. And that reversal is the whole point.

If you have ever looked for God and not found him — if a marriage has gone quiet, if a prayer has gone unanswered — sit with today’s chapter. Do not rush past the ache.

Today’s reading is only two verses long.

At the very centre of the Bible’s greatest love song, a third voice speaks. Not the bride. Not the bridegroom. Someone else — never named, never labelled.

And what that voice blesses might be the last thing you would expect to find blessed in the Bible.

Two verses. The whole book pivots on them.

A bridegroom looks at his bride and says, “There is no flaw in you.”

It sounds like a compliment. It isn’t only that.

The word he uses comes straight from the sacrificial system — the word for a lamb without blemish. Most readers sail straight past it. The apostle Paul didn’t.

Today she searches the night streets. Does she find him? Store the answer. The same scene comes back later this week — with the opposite ending.

The first voice in the Bible’s greatest love song is a woman’s.

She speaks first. She speaks most. And she gets the last word of the whole book.

In the ancient world, that is almost unheard of. It is also the first clue to what this book is quietly undoing.
