Protecting Students from Fraud and Cyber Crime

As thousands of students start or return to university this autumn, fraudsters and cyber criminals will be looking for opportunities to exploit the excitement and uncertainty that comes with a new term.

The UK Fraud and Cyber Police have created a guide for university students to help them protect their personal information online, spot the fraudsters and keep themselves cyber safe.

It’s not just students who are at risk from cyber fraud, we all run the daily gauntlet of falling for a phishing text or a seemingly legitimate phone call, having a social media account cloned, or our personal information stolen.

🚨 Church Street Community Speed Watch 🚨

There’s been some lively discussion on here recently about vehicle speeds along Church Street. T he good news is that the Northamptonshire Police Safer Roads Team has officially approved two monitoring sites on Church Street for Community Speed Watch (CSW) sessions!

WE NEED YOU to make this happen.

CSW is entirely volunteer-based (must be 18+). Each session is just one hour, and you can do as little as one session or as many as you like.

🍳 Easy to join: No experience is needed. Training is just a 5-minute online video you can watch at home.
💁‍♂️ Full support: An experienced volunteer leads every session.
🚦 Maximum impact: With enough volunteers, we can monitor traffic across different times of the day for several weeks.

CSW literally cannot run without volunteers. This is our chance as a community to monitor what is actually happening on Church Street.

**Recycling Centres Early Closure**

All West Northamptonshire Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will close early at 1:00 PM Thursday 13 August 2026 due to the forecast of extreme heat and an Amber Heat-Health Alert.

Normal opening hours are expected to resume on Friday 14 August.

New Community Transport Service – Update for Helmdon Residents

🚐You may have seen initial news about Saints on Wheels, a new community transport service launched by the Saints (Brackley) Community Trust. Helmdon Parish Council is currently in contact with the organisers to gather full details on how the service will operate specifically for Helmdon residents,including pickup locations, schedules, and eligibility.

We want to make sure you have all the correct practical information before you sign up.

As soon as these details are confirmed, we will share full information and booking guidance here, on our website, and on the parish noticeboards.

The Parish Council is aware of the serious motorcycle accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon at the raised zebra crossing near the school, and our thoughts are with the injured rider for a full recovery. We would also like to thank the residents who stepped in at the scene to offer first aid and keep the road safe.

We wanted to share an update with the community:

🛣️ Road Maintenance Responsibility: Public roads, speed humps, and crossings are maintained solely by West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) as the Highways Authority. Parish Councils do not have the legal authority to carry out road repairs directly.

🚨 Direct Escalation: Because this defect has resulted in a serious injury, the Parish Council has formally escalated this location to WNC Highways officers and our WNC Ward Councillors as an urgent safety priority.

👷 Pushing for a Proper Fix: We are asking WNC to carry out a full surface reconstruction rather than short-term patching, ensuring the crossing is safe for cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians.

How residents can help:

If you wish to report this or any other highway defect directly to the team that manages the repairs, please report it via FixMyStreet WNC. The more reports logged directly with WNC, the higher the priority it receives on their inspection schedule.

We will update the village as soon as WNC Highways provides a timeline for repairs. Here is a link to the resident's report:

This speed hump is extremely dangerous to cyclists, walkers and motorbikes. It is very uneven with potholes. On Saturday 25th July at 1400 2 motorbike riders were travelling over it at 15mph. 🚧 **A43 Southbound Closure This Weekend** 🚧

Don't forget that the A43 is closed southbound from the B4525 junction to the BP garage from 8pm Friday to 23:59 Sunday.

Due to extreme heat the closure time has been extended to allow more time for the asphalt to set. We are starting the road realignment to connect the new section of the A43 with the existing carriageway. This work will involve installing signage, resurfacing the road, and applying new white lining.....
