New Community Transport Service – Update for Helmdon Residents

🚐You may have seen initial news about Saints on Wheels, a new community transport service launched by the Saints (Brackley) Community Trust. Helmdon Parish Council is currently in contact with the organisers to gather full details on how the service will operate specifically for Helmdon residents, including pickup locations, schedules, and eligibility.

We want to make sure you have all the correct practical information before you sign up.

As soon as these details are confirmed, we will share full information and booking guidance here, on our website, and on the parish noticeboards.

Watch this space for updates soon!

The Parish Council is aware of the serious motorcycle accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon at the raised zebra crossing near the school, and our thoughts are with the injured rider for a full recovery. We would also like to thank the residents who stepped in at the scene to offer first aid and keep the road safe.

We wanted to share an update with the community:

🛣️ Road Maintenance Responsibility: Public roads, speed humps, and crossings are maintained solely by West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) as the Highways Authority. Parish Councils do not have the legal authority to carry out road repairs directly.

🚨 Direct Escalation: Because this defect has resulted in a serious injury, the Parish Council has formally escalated this location to WNC Highways officers and our WNC Ward Councillors as an urgent safety priority.

👷 Pushing for a Proper Fix: We are asking WNC to carry out a full surface reconstruction rather than short-term patching, ensuring the crossing is safe for cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians.

How residents can help:

If you wish to report this or any other highway defect directly to the team that manages the repairs, please report it via FixMyStreet WNC. The more reports logged directly with WNC, the higher the priority it receives on their inspection schedule.

We will update the village as soon as WNC Highways provides a timeline for repairs. Here is a link to the resident's report:

This speed hump is extremely dangerous to cyclists, walkers and motorbikes. It is very uneven with potholes. On Saturday 25th July at 1400 2 motorbike riders were travelling over it at 15mph. One fell off hitting his handlebars and coming off onto the road. He suffered multiple broken ribs which red...

🚧 **A43 Southbound Closure This Weekend** 🚧

Don't forget that the A43 is closed southbound from the B4525 junction to the BP garage from 8pm Friday to 23:59 Sunday.

See https://www.hs2.org.uk/work-items/updated-notice-of-weekend-road-closures-a43-brackley-2/ for all the details.

Due to extreme heat the closure time has been extended to allow more time for the asphalt to set. We are starting the road realignment to connect the new section of the A43 with the existing carriageway. This work will involve installing signage, resurfacing the road, and applying new white lining.....

🏡 Community Speed Watch: Monitoring Traffic Over The Next Two Saturdays!

Hi everyone,
With the upcoming HS2 weekend road closures on the A43 over the next two weeks, our local roads are likely to see a significant shift in traffic.
To help monitor our roads and collect important speed data for the village, we are organizing some Community Speed Watch sessions. We are looking for a few volunteers to join us for the 10:00 – 11:00 AM and 5:00 – 6:00 PM slots on the next two Saturdays:

Saturday 11th July (A43 Southbound closure weekend)

Saturday 18th July (A43 Northbound closure weekend)

No experience is necessary! A quick 5-minute training video guides you through everything you need to know, and we'll send you the link to watch at home beforehand. We always operate in small, friendly groups of three, so you’ll be fully supported the entire time.
Our goal is simply to get out there, monitor the traffic flow, and look out for our community during what promises to be two very busy weekends.

👉 Want to help out? Please send a message or WhatsApp 07484 240790 or email [email protected] with the date and time slot that suits you best!

📢 HS2 & Local Road Network Update for Helmdon Residents 🚗🚧

Cllr Danny Moody attended the West Northants HS2 Liaison Group meeting this morning. There is a lot happening right on our doorstep over the next few weeks that will impact your commute, including:

🗓️ A43 Overbridge Closures: Traffic will permanently move onto the new bridge by the end of July! To make the switch, the A43 Southbound will be closed from 8 PM Friday 10th July to 7 AM Sunday 12th July (avoiding the Grand Prix). The Northbound closure will follow. (Don't worry about the "Spring 2027" road signs—that's just for final off-road landscaping!)

⚠️ Radstone Road Bridge Safety Review: Following its April opening, we’ve raised concerns about speeding (60mph limit), the hidden Radstone village junction, and unmarked cycle paths. WNC and EKFB have actioned an urgent safety review and meeting to address this. Note: Deferred water main works will mean a full closure here for a few weeks in early 2027.

💨 B4525 Greatworth T: Good news—the complex water utility works are finished, reducing traffic light delays! Bad news—the dust has been awful. EKFB has been firmly told to get the water bowsers out to stop the blinding dust clouds during dry spells.

🌳 Helmdon Successes: Construction is well underway on a wide "Green Bridge" near Radstone across the Old Great Central Disused Railway line to reconnect our local footpaths. Plus, a big thank you to the HS2 team for installing the fantastic new security fencing at Acorns!
