Can We Not Trust the Lord With His Own Business?

When we insist on arranging our own providence, we usually make a poor job of it. We step into work that belongs to God, trying to manage circumstances that only His wisdom can properly order. The result is often confusion, disappointment, and unnecessary trouble.

Israel did well when the Lord led them into Canaan. But when they presumed to go forward on their own, they met defeat. It is never wise either to run ahead of God or to lag behind Him. Both bring clouds over our path and disturb the peace we might otherwise enjoy.

Can we not trust the Lord with what belongs to Him? Can our wisdom add anything to His infallible wisdom? Can our goodness improve upon His infinite goodness?

Surely we have enough to do simply obeying Him faithfully.

Why should we reach after matters too high for us and intrude into a province that belongs to God alone?

My soul, be still—God is at the helm, and He is well able to pilot the vessel.

Keep your hand off the helm!

Down with you, unbelief—what have you to do while God Himself provides for His people?

— C. H. Spurgeon

Saturday is an invitation to loosen your grip on the week and rest in the presence of Jesus.

You do not have to solve everything today. Slow your soul, release what you cannot carry, and let His nearness become your peace.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
—Matthew 11:28

May this Saturday hold less striving, more stillness, and the comforting reminder that you are held.
