Haworth Church

Haworth Church We are the Church of England Parish Church for Haworth and Stanbury in West Yorkshire. It replaced the building where Rev.

The building was erected in the Perpendicular style between 1879 and 1881 by Rev John Wade. Patrick Bronte preached from 1820 until 1861 and it contains the Bronte family tomb where two of the three famous sister authoresses are interred. Charlotte and Emily are with the rest of the family in the tomb while Anne is buried in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. We are currently engaged in a five-year re

storation programme. In 2012 we completed a £237,000 repair of the south-facing roofs and tower while currently we are engaged in the early stages of repairing the north-facing roofs. It is anticipated that the Church will be closed in Spring 2015 while the work on the north-facing roofs is completed. Part of the north-facing roof programme will also see us introducing improved toilet and catering facilities. Our partner church St Gabriel's in Stanbury is a Bronte inspired building and it too is engaged in a roof repair programme.

A big “thank you” to everyone who supports the Friends of the Brontes Church!

The Friends raise funds, particularly through the book and souvenir stall, to support with maintenance and restoration for the church building. Last Saturday our wonderful volunteers raised £350.20! They have recently made grants to support with the clock repairs and to pay for the boiler to be fixed, as well as previously paying for repairs to stained glass, vestry roof… They are wonderful!

Peter Breed, chair of the Friends, says:

“We are currently open Wednesdays and Saturdays, but would like to cover Thursdays too during July/Aug/Sept. However due to being a bit short of volunteers (with illness effecting several key people) this looks difficult, so we could do with some more volunteers.”

Could you give just a few hours a month to support this wonderful group? Thank you!

Thank you very much to everyone who helped with our pop-up cafe (baking, washing up, or eating cake!). We’ve raised an amazing £367.85 for Christian Aid! 🥳👏

If you would like to donate to this excellent charity you still can: https://give.christianaid.org.uk

Funds raised beyond the immediate need will support our wider global work, enabling us to respond to emerging crises and continue fighting poverty in communities around the world.
