Thought for the Week - The journey before the break.
There’s something about this time of year that feels like one long final push.
Schools are counting down to the summer holidays. Teachers are finishing reports. Pupils are looking towards the end of term. Families are juggling sports days, concerts, celebrations and all the busyness that seems to gather before the holidays begin. For many, work has its own deadlines to meet before people take a well-earned break.
Perhaps that’s how you’re feeling too.
Life can often feel as though we’re constantly working towards the next milestone. If I can just get through this week… If I can just finish this project… If I can just make it to the holidays…
There is nothing wrong with looking forward. In fact, hope is one of God’s greatest gifts. But sometimes, in our determination to reach the finish line, we forget that God is present in the ordinary moments along the way.
The Bible reminds us, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
Not tomorrow. Not when life slows down. Today.
Perhaps this week we can pause, even briefly, to notice the blessings that are already around us: a conversation with a friend, the warmth of the sunshine, laughter shared over a cup of tea, the beauty of God’s creation, or simply the quiet assurance that we do not walk through life alone.
If you’re counting down the days until the holidays, I hope they come quickly for you. But before they arrive, may you also discover God’s grace in the here and now.
Whatever this week brings, may you know God’s strength for today’s tasks, peace for today’s worries, and joy for today’s blessings.
Take great care, stay safe - God bless 🙏🏻
