We were delighted to welcome the Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Association to St Michael & All Angels Sunday 23rd August for their annual service prior to the Longshaw sheepdog trials.

We were also pleased to welcome Rev Phil Michell, who is the lead chaplain with Derbyshire Rural Chaplaincy, and who led our service of thanksgiving. His address entitled Fear v Familiarity compared the love and care of the shepherd for his sheep, with the love and care that Jesus has for us.

Following the service the Bell Room was a hub of laughter, conversation and general enjoyment as friends caught up with each other and exchanged anecdotes.

This Sunday 23rd August is the Service of blessing of sheepdogs from the Longshaw sheepdog trials, which is always a lovely service.

The Longshaw Sheep Dog Trials claim to be the oldest continuous trials in the country. They have been run from 1898 to the present day, interrupted only by the two world wars.

The church will be closed this weekend as the scaffolding still has to be removed. The service on Sunday is unaffected as we will Worship Together at Grindleford

Further to the recent fall of plaster, we have arranged for an inspection of the ceiling in the church this coming week.

This will take place from Tuesday 26th until Friday 30th May, which regrettably means that the church will be closed during this period.

We'll keep you posted and let you know if any of these arrangements change

30/04/2026

The church is open again for visitors from about 9:30 to 5:30 every day, from 10:30 on Sunday

We had a great Sunday Special on the theme of walking and talking and sharing, based on the story of the road to Emmeus, where the disciples did not recognise Jesus, and then they did. We built a road scene, discovered words, discussed pilgrimage and fire and then had lovely coffee. Great to see so many people
