Saturday 12th September is our 7th birthday as Friends of Haslingden Cemetery.
Far too may projects to list and far too many volunteers to mention along with our very generous donators and our close relationships with local business.
I have attached a few pictures showing some of our more "major" projects to show you a fraction of what has been achieved.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who has been involved and continue to be.
Two more projects will be unveiled in October and November this year and we are looking forward to those.
Why not come and visit us this Saturday to celebrate and of course Coffee and Cake

Huge shout out to the "Water Babies" a team of volunteers who for the past few weeks during the heatwave have been to the cemetery (sometimes twice a day) to water the plants and keep them alive.

That's a lot of volunteer hours put in and sure we all appreciate it keeping our cemetery looking in top condition.

The heat didn't dampen attendance today as we had a good turn out of people wanting to top up their tans - yes, this is Haslingden we're talking about, where we refer to the sun cracking the flags - well it was today. A visit to Holden Arms beer garden was a welcome treat - some might still be in there!

It's set to be another hot one for our working party tomorrow, thankfully there's lots shade at the cemetery and our chapel is quite cool. Remember to wear a hat and use plenty of sunscreen. Please stay at home if you feel the heat is going to be too much (we'll put you down for a double shift in December 😄). We'll have a supply of cool drinks and we're finishing the morning with a trip across to the Holden Arms to say thanks and show our appreciation in letting us use their car park. Great News! We're holding an extra Balsam Bashing event this Friday evening June 26th. 6pm to 8.30pm, followed by sausage butties. We need to attack the Balsam before it flowers and sets seed, if we pull it up now we could really halt its progress. Come for half an hour or how long you can, every stem ripped out makes a difference. To assist with catering please confirm your attendance,

Thank you to everyone who turned out yesterday for our June working party, much Balsam was bashed (still more to do though) paths edged, litter picked and the area around the chapel planted with loads of bedding plants. It's worth popping up to the cemetery just to have a look, it's stunning, well done to our volunteers and our young buds group who worked really hard to create a fantastic display.

A week today on Saturday 13th our working party takes the form of a Balsam Bashing event, there are a number of similar events taking place along the valley of the Irwell. Just turn up any time from 9.30 and help pull up some of the Balsam menace. Come for half an hour or all morning, it all helps. More information about Balsam and the problems it causes can be found here. It mentions dates in May but disregard that. Thanks

One of our junior helpers and chief crumpet eater, will be delighted to know that
Warburtons have just awarded us a grant of £400 towards the building of water harvesting and composting bins to enable us to increase the amount we can recycle and eventually produce our own compost. There may also be a little over to spend on extra crumpets, but dont tell her that!

Thank you to our fantastic band of volunteers who turned up today for our working party and AGM and experienced 4 seasons one day. The event was funded by the Eric Wright Trust with top class catering from our own Andrew Neil Taylor beverage support was provided by Ninja_CoffeeCompany . Claire gave an excellent run down of our achievements of the last year which are far too many to list here. Big thank you to all who support us be it financially, being a volunteer, or being a supportive encouraging friend on Facebook- you are all very much appreciated.
