Starbeck Methodist Church

Starbeck Methodist Church Our church community has over 140 members plus many friends who are regular visitors for worship on a Sunday morning.

We are a truly “all age” diverse and accepting community with a strong Junior Church and crèche. Concerts at Starbeck Methodist Church, Harrogate. This church has a long tradition of arranging and hosting a programme of music concerts from October through to April. These monthly concerts are well supported by the local community and have been described as ‘great winter escapes’. We are fortunate t

o have strong links with local brass bands, choirs, schools and other instrumentalists. The groups say that they enjoy performing at Starbeck as they always get a good welcome, the audiences are very appreciative and the acoustics are great. The concerts are usually held on a Saturday night however some are held on a Sunday afternoon. Do come along and enjoy some excellent live music in our comfortable, accessible venue; also remember that you are very welcome to bring your friends! Tea, coffee and biscuits are served during the interval. Entry is by pay at the door and we try to keep the price affordable. For further information see our events section.

Kaminari UK Taiko Drummers and Michael Graham on Japanese stringed instruments - it was great having both acts returning to perform at Starbeck Methodist Church. We were also delighted that Deputy Mayor Councillor Jenny Travena and her consort Mr John Crabtree were able to attend, as part of a wonderful audience of around 120 people.
It was a stunning show, full of drama and intensity, you could really ‘feel the sound’. Then there were the surprises such as the calls of loud singing voices without use of a microphone, maybe they could fill in for Knaresborough Town Criers when they go on holiday? Oh yea!
There was a change of atmosphere with Michael Grahams’ performance on koto with thoughtful pieces that reflected flowering cherry trees and snow. It’s also great the way Michael gets into character with the flip flops and socks!
While I’ve been writing this a friend has just sent a message ‘those drummers were fab’

To fundraise for the church and other charities we have a regular coffee morning on Saturdays. Last week there was a stall from the Harrogate Fair Trade Shop and there was also an opportunity to chat with the Co-op community representative about the advantages of membership.
