The Church of England has joined churches across the world as it celebrates a new festival in its calendar.
The 'Festival of Creation in Christ', which began yesterday, will be celebrated on the first Sunday in September each year.
It marks the worldwide consensus that the Earth should be treasured and protected as a gift from God.
We say 'Alleluia!' to that! 😍
The Festival offers an opportunity for Christians to give thanks for God's creation and redemption of the world, to reflect on humanity's responsibility to care for the natural world and to pray for its renewal. Christians are encouraged to care for the world around them because God created it, is restoring it through Christ, and has promised to renew it in Christ in the future.
We thank God for the creation and world around us and pray that we may take good care of it.
Caring for it is the responsibility though of all of us, not just Christians.
It's such a wonderful world.
Holy and Eternal God,
you are maker of heaven and earth,
you are the Word through whom all things were made,
you are the Spirit, the giver of life:
draw us into the mystery of your love,
that with all creation we may proclaim your praise,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
