Our church can only run how does with the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. Here is a sneaky look at what they get up to....... A very small insight and selection of volunteers who don't mind having their photo taken - there are many more that we give thanks to every day and the work they do!!!!!!!!

On Tuesday 26th May we welcomed Halas Homes for worship at St Johns Church. we have formed a beautiful relationsship with Halas homes through the work of some of our congregation and links to our very own Rev Hazel. A few weeks ago we welcome the very talented John, a blind resident of Halas Homes who came and played the organ for us. We welcome some more of the residents for worship using Makaton Video hymns, Widget Symbol Lords Prayer cards and creative prayers. It was a lovely service, welcomed by all and appreciated by the charity.

We look forward to seeing more of them as a regular worshipping community to St Johns and feel very blessed in this ministry.

June is the National Month of Prayer for Toddler Groups! This year, the theme is Jesus the Good Shepherd, and the key scripture is John 10. v 14-16.

On Monday 1st June, the organisers (1277 hours - make them count) met with MPs to share about the important work that toddler groups do in local communities all across the UK.

They asked as many toddler groups as possible to send in a sheep to represent their group.
Our sheep 'Bertie' left his flock (pictured before he left) and travelled all the way to London to join a flock of hundreds of other toddler group sheep.

Many of the sheep have now been adopted by other toddler leaders, who have taken them back to pray for the members and leaders of the sheep's group. Over the coming weeks, we will post ways to help us to pray for the children and families attending toddler groups and the leaders and volunteers who work within them.

Our toddler group 'Sunbeams & Songs' meets every Monday, from 1.30pm to 3pm, during term time. We offer play activities, crafts, stories, songs, company,, and refreshments for everyone. Our group is free to attend, although donations are always welcome. Please contact Louise, our Children and Families Worker, on 07761 234208 if you would like more details. We really would love to see you.

As we enter Volunteers week, we give thanks for all our amazing volunteers who help to keep us going at St. John's and accross the Parish.

We often miss some of the unseen work, those who put the rubbish out, clean and tidy the church and garden, the kitchen hands who always have the kettle on, the ones who do admin, sitting inputting stats, writing reports and filling in forms, those who fix a fitting here and there, meet with contractors, open up and lock up, check the alarms, cameras and security measures, those who prepare altars, orders of service, steward baptisms, weddings and funerals, those who care pastorally, who bring their concerns to us and many many more duties that are not always seen or heard about.

We appreciate you all, every single hour given in physical support, prayer and goodwill.

Thank you and may God Bless your kind nature and calling. You are loved and appreciated and we couldn't do it without you. ❤️

As part of their RE studies, we recently welcomed year 3 from Newfield Park Primary, for 'Discover Church'.

In small groups, we explored different parts of our church through six stations: The Door, The Font, The Altar, Prayer Corner, The Pulpit and Stained Glass Windows.

The children learnt about each part of church, were able to ask questions and had the opportunity to take part in a practical activity at each station.
There was a doll baptism at the font, prayers were written in the prayer corner, bookmarks were created at the pulpit, hearts were decorated at the altar, welcome notes were attached to the door and a stained glass cross was created to celebrate the beautiful windows we have in church.

A special experience for all involved. We are blessed to have such wonderful links with our local schools and are also very grateful to our team of dedicated volunteers that enable these visits to take place.

As part of our highlight on schools work this week, we share with you our donut club. This is a space provided for year 11 students who are sitting their GCSEs at present. We open at 3pm on Wednesdays and offer an opportunity for revision, mindful colouring, table games as a bit of a breathing space. We also have free donuts, pop or hot chocolate and enjoy giving our space to these students who deserve a bit of pampering.

There is no real religious connotations other than kind Christians offering time and space to encourage our young people, however we do nurture curiosity. This was a haven for a small group of students last year for whom some now have an active role in the church and we have opened this year to the appreciation of those who attend.
