Olympic Speed Skater Anders Johnson posted this, “Win or lose, my identity is in Jesus Christ.” He said, “While preparing to compete at the Olympics, I have been reflecting on my Identity in Christ and what salvation in means to me.
I have this new identity as an Olympian now, but it will never compare to my identity in Jesus. Win or lose, my identity is in Jesus Christ.
My salvation is eternal, and will never fade, whereas this phase as an Olympian has its time, and then people forget.
The meaning and joy found in my relationship with Christ can never be matched by anything in this world and as a child of God, every promise to me is yes and amen in Jesus Christ.
The opening ceremonies at the Olympics will be amazing, but in contrast, the ‘opening ceremonies’ in Heaven when I am welcomed home will last for all eternity before the throne of God. And when I hear my Saviour say, “well done, thou good and faithful servant,” the celebration will go on and on and all that is within us will give glory and honour unto Him.
Glory. It’s what athletes have been striving for since the beginning, but if there be any glory, may it be in Jesus, “For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.” Romans 11:36
I believe God gave speed skating to me as part of my calling, and through my sport I desire to bring Him glory and make Him known.
The Apostle Paul talks about it in 1 Corinthians, “And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.” 9:25
Opportunity is favour, and God has given me this great opportunity and entrusted me with His favour…”may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord my strength and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14
I strive to represent my country to the best of my ability at the Games, but ultimately I strive to represent my Saviour who died for me, paid for my sin and set me free. To Him be glory, Thank you, Jesus!” Amen!
