St Mary's Choir Guildford St Mary's Choir is an open group of amateur church musicians who sing at St Mary's Church, Guildford. Want to join us? Like this page for news.

St Mary's Choir meets on an occasional basis, including Easter and Christmas, and is open to all singers who can read music, sing in tune and watch the conductor (at least occasionally). If you think you might enjoy singing with us, come and give us a try. We rehearse no more than twice for each service, and each service will be publicised as a Facebook event from this page. The choir's repertoire

includes both accompanied and unaccompanied works from the Renaissance to the present, and is picked for its good taste and musical quality as well as its fit with the liturgy. We are an unrobed choir.

Such a joy to sing together at a service this morning - at least, something beyond hymns and hymn book carols - for the first time since early March 2020.

Yesterday afternoon we held our 2020 carol service, with some rapid adaptations as we have gone in to Tier 4 overnight. 22 people in the church, a further 50 or so on Zoom. Candles flickering in the breeze from the open doors; atmospheric lighting; glittering decorations; beautiful words and music. One of the most special services I have ever participated in.

Lovely to see a good number of the choir yesterday for our second face to face rehearsal- and-recording session in the church. It was really quite wonderful and uplifting. The results will be used for the service at St Mary's on 1st November for All Saints

Yesterday was a sad but uplifting occasion, saying goodbye and rest in peace to our dear friend Nigel Gibson-Horrocks. Nigel had been in the choir for over 30 years, I believe. I think he would have enjoyed the send-off we gave him.
