What treasures might be hiding in your local church?

This Heritage Open Days (11-20 September), churches across the Diocese of Guildford are welcoming visitors to explore beautiful buildings, discover local history, enjoy guided tours, and uncover stories spanning hundreds of years. You might even get a chance to try your hand at bell-ringing!

Whether you've never stepped inside before or know your local church well, this is a wonderful opportunity to see these historic spaces in a new light.

Communities throughout the diocese, nation and beyond will be celebrating the newest festival in the Church’s calendar this Sunday - The Festival of the Creation in Christ.

The Season of Creation is a time to give thanks for God’s world and reflect on our shared responsibility to care for it.

We’d love to hear how you are marking the Season of Creation over the next few weeks in your local area or individually as you pause and reflect on how we care for the earth that has been entrusted to us.

In light of the flash flooding in Nepal and ongoing search and rescue operation, Bishop Paul has commented, “Following the devastating natural disaster in Nepal, I am holding the people of Nepal, Nepali communities across the world, and the many tourists caught up in this disaster in my prayers. Closer to home, I am very mindful of the Nepali communities within our diocese who may be anxiously awaiting news of loved ones. May God bring comfort, strength and hope to all those affected.”

Whatever your results, take a moment to recognise how much hard work you've put in to get here. That's something worth celebrating.

We're also thankful for the teachers, school staff, family members and friends who have supported you along the way.

Our Patron, Wadham College, is delighted to announce that Rev Joanna Winn-Smith (currently the Bishop’s Chaplain for the diocese) has been appointed as the new Rector at Esher. She will be bringing a huge amount of skills and experience to the parish and we're so looking forward to welcoming her.

Jo said, ’I am so excited to be coming to Esher to journey with you all in learning and sharing more of the love of Christ. I’m looking forward to worshipping in word, music and sacrament, building community, supporting one another and serving our parish. I’ve been a lay reader and youth group leader, worked for the national church, taught theology and ministry, been a counsellor and supported the bishop as his chaplain – time to put all those skills together and become a parish priest! Thank you for inviting me to join you.’

Please pray for Jo and her family as they prepare to move.��On behalf of the PCC, we want to thank everyone who has supported this process with your prayers, encouragement and patience.

This has truly been a parish journey, and we are deeply grateful for the care, commitment and faith shown by so many over recent months.�
