Happy ! Volunteers' Week runs from 1-7 June, and it's a chance for us to highlight the incredible work done by volunteers in churches, chapels and meeting houses across the UK.

Volunteers are the hidden engine of church life. Last year in our National Churches Survey, an overwhelming 83% of churches said the successful management of their buildings depends on an active body of volunteers. The average congregation now relies on 265 hours of unpaid service every month. Volunteers are doing everything from welcoming visitors, running food banks and keeping accounts to organising playgroups, planning events and fundraising.

Thank you so much to church volunteers across the UK for your hard work, whatever you're doing to help.

SAVE THE DATE! The 31st West Lindsey Churches Festival takes place on the 8th-9th and 15th-16th May, 2027, with (we hope!) more than 100 churches and chapels to visit across the stunning Lincolnshire landscape.

If you can't wait that long, you can visit more churches this September as our sister festival Lincolnshire Wolds & Coast Churches Festival springs into life on 5th & 6th and 12th & 13th September. Please follow them on Facebook too!

Thank you to all our volunteers and the festival committee (who are also volunteers) for making this event thrive over three decades, that's quite the achievement.

Thank you to our main sponsors West Lindsey District Council.

And thanks most of all to our visitors, who remind us how much these churches and chapels are appreciated.

PLEASE SEE ADDED DETAILS BELOW.

Pam Gurnell, a big part of St Edmund's Church community passed away yesterday morning. Many of our regular church goers will know Pam was a big supporter of all our events and services. She was always on hand to bring flowers and cakes and helped at the Big Breakfasts, came to our Coffee & Chats, film nights, Bridge Drives and services.

Pam had a wonderfully varied life and lived to a great age. When I visited her she always asked how things were in church and what we were doing. We will miss her ready smile and gentle ways.

More details to follow.

There will be a service for the life of Pam at Grimsby Crematorium on Thursday June 11th at 10.30 am. Pam will pause at the gates of St Edmund's Church on her way to the Crem.

I think Pooh and Paddington are tired now so we leave St Mary's West Butterwick May Churches Festival, West Lindsey, Lincolnshire for home. We found my step Granny's grave and her husband who died in WW11. Thank you to the church wardens for their help.

Epworth St Andrews May Churches Festival, West Lindsey, Lincolnshire was next. A walk up Church Walk to gain access to the large church with lots of modern information boards. Very interesting. Pooh and Paddington particularly liked the tile plaque wall. The bell chamber is very modern too.

What a delightful first stop today at St Mark's Amcott as part of May Churches Festival, West Lindsey, Lincolnshire. Paddington and Pooh enjoyed the cup of tea and cake. What a lady to tell us all about the history. The church interior is charming and quite different as you can see from the photos. Well worth a visit.
