This is a couple or more years old but not much changes. I am making some cow bunting for the Comedy event and needed to check cow colours!
As you look around the fields surrounding the Milk Shed and you see the cows grazing you will notice that our cows are different breeds, colours and shapes. They aren’t necessarily your traditional ‘black and white’ dairy breeds that you may be used to seeing. That’s because we have a blend of three different breeds in our herd, and this is why our milk is distinct. We cross between the Montbéliarde, Holstein and Jersey breeds to achieve what we believe is the ‘perfect’ milk, and this is what sets us apart.
The milk our Montbéliarde cows produce (a French breed predominantly used for cheese making) is very high in protein and this complements the traditional Holstein milk and the creamy, high butterfat milk of our Jersey girls.
Vine Farm milk is delicious. It’s high in protein, it’s rich and it’s creamy. It’s versatile, it’s great for cheese making (as the large majority of our milk goes to Long Clawson Dairy Ltd to make Stilton), it’s great for drinking (our Milk Shed and Wigston Fields News & Deli customers think so), it’s great for making Gelato (just ask the fantastic team at Gelato Village !), it’s great for cooking and baking (I’m sure the amazing Hambleton Bakery and Olive Branch Clipsham bakers and chefs will agree) and that’s because our happy herd of cows are at the centre of everything we do. Their breeding makes a difference, their welfare makes a difference and they make a difference, and we couldn’t be prouder of them and the delicious milk they produce for us all to enjoy👍🐄🥛
