🎟️ It’s your last chance to pick up tickets for this afternoon’s uplifting celebration of Spanish music, in our wonderful church space.
🎵 Join us at 5.30pm to set yourself up positively for the week ahead.
🎺 The programme begins with "Amparito Roca" - Jaime Texidor arranged by Angus Armstrong
🎶 Moving straight into traditional Spanish music with three movements from "Carmen" - George Bizet.
🍊 Then some Spanish Orange Juice to enjoy (more properly called "Concierto de Aranjuez") - made famous in the film "Brassed Off".
🔥 Followed by "Ritual Fire Dance" - Manuel de Falla, arranged by Eric Crees - The Essence of Spanish Passion in Classical Music.
🎤 More operatic fame follows with the "Intermezzo"from "Cavalleria rusticana" - Pietro Mascagni, arranged by David Marlatt
🎺 The final piece in the first half of this concert is "Los Canarios", a rip-roaring piece guaranteed to get feet tapping by Gaspar Sanz, arranged by David Powell.
INTERVAL
🎶 The second half is the musical core of this concert - a rare performance of Isaac Albéniz’s Suite Española, Op. 47 arranged from the original piano music for large brass ensemble. It is one of Albéniz's most performed and popular works.
🥁 After this, the programme becomes significantly lighter, starting with "The Blades of Toledo" by Trevor Sharpe, a British Army Bandmaster and Composer.
🇪🇸 We go up a gear with "Spain" - Chick Corea arranged by Luc Vertommen. It is likely Corea's most recognized piece, and is considered a jazz standard.
🦆 “3 Caballeros" features Donald Duck. Not what you were expecting, perhaps!
🎵 “Malagueña" is a fandango style song by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona.
Finally (or por fin, in Spanish!)
🎺 No concert of Spanish Music would be complete without music from Tijuana. Herb Alpert had several No.1 hits with his Tijuana Brass, and we will play one of them. But which one?! Come along to find out…
