Requiescat in Pace | Rest in Peace

Pope Francis, 1936-2025

Upon hearing the death of Pope Francis, Bishop McKinney said: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of the Holy Father, Pope Francis. The Pope has left an indelible mark on the Church and the world, as a man of great warmth and humility who made use of his global prestige to highlight and to listen to the concerns of the poorest and most marginalised people across the world. The loss of the Holy Father will be deeply felt in all of our diocesan communities and well beyond, but I believe his legacy will live on."

📸 Easter Triduum at St Mary’s ✝️🌿
“He is not here; He has risen.” – Luke 24:6

Over the Easter Triduum, our parish walked together through the sacred mysteries of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection. From the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, through the quiet sorrow of Good Friday, the blessing of the Easter Food, to the radiant joy of the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday, we give thanks to God for the gift of salvation and for the life of our community.

In the midst of this holiest of seasons, our hearts are also united in prayer and mourning for Pope Francis, who passed away this morning, during the Easter Octave, having offered his final blessing from the Vatican just hours before.

Even in his final days, the Holy Father bore witness to the hope of the Resurrection, holding on until he could once more bless the world with peace and love. His life was a reflection of Christ’s own self-giving: humble, faithful, and full of mercy.

As we share these glimpses into our parish’s journey through the Triduum, we do so in gratitude for Pope Francis' spiritual leadership, and in trust that he now rejoices in the risen glory of our Lord.

🕊️ In Loving Memory of Pope Francis 🕊️

With deep sorrow, we join the world in mourning the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, who has returned to the house of our Heavenly Father.

A shepherd of compassion, mercy, and humility, Pope Francis led us by example, championing the poor, calling for peace, and reminding us always of God’s boundless love. His papacy has touched hearts across the world and inspired us to walk more closely with Christ.

Let us unite in prayer for the repose of his soul, giving thanks for his faithful witness and gentle leadership. May he rest in the peace of Christ, and may perpetual light shine upon him.

🙏 Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. 🙏

🕯️ Our Catholic Church, St Mary the Immaculate in Grantham will be open today from 12 noon until 8pm.

On Saturday 9 July 2022, we celebrated a special Mass in the parish for our First Holy Communion candidates, who all received their First Holy Communion that day. We have been blessed in our Parish as this is our second group who made their First Holy Communion in 2022.
It was a very joyful occasion, and we pray this weekend for those young people and for their families and our parish catechists and volunteer helpers, giving thanks for this important and very special moment in their journey of faith.

Congratulations to our First Holy Communion group who today made their First Confession. How beautiful the day before Divine Mercy Sunday and they all now continue their journey towards receiving their next Sacrament, the Eucharist for the first time in July.
