🎶 His love endures forever!

A little moment from our worship yesterday as we began our new series through Philippians, Choosing Joy.

We were reminded that Christian joy doesn’t begin with having everything sorted. It begins with grace — with a God who loves us, reaches out to us, and doesn’t give up on us.

Whatever this week holds:

🙌 His love endures forever.
❤️ His grace is enough.
🎶 So we can sing praise!

🐦 Magpies is back! 🐦

It was brilliant to welcome babies, toddlers, parents and carers back to Magpies this morning after the summer break! 💛

There was plenty of playing, splashing, exploring and making friends — and the usual visit, at the end of the session, from a rather large green crocodile! 🐊😄

A huge thank you to our wonderful Magpies team for creating such a warm and welcoming space each week.

If you’ve got a baby or toddler, we’d love you to come and join us. Whether you’ve been before or it would be your very first time, there’s always a warm welcome waiting. ❤️

From 9.30am-12 there will be a dedicated space in our main building for anyone who would appreciate gathering in the light of the passing of Sam Jinks. It’s a horrible shock.

Sam was loved by so many across the area and we loved having him as part of our community. We want to support where we can and send our love and deep condolences to his partner and their families.

What does joy look like when life isn’t easy?

When there’s plenty to worry about, when plans don’t work out, or when life simply feels a bit heavy, “choose joy” can sound easier said than done.

This autumn at St Mary Magdalene, we’re exploring an ancient letter written by Paul while he was in prison. Remarkably, it’s a letter overflowing with joy, hope and encouragement — and with wisdom that still speaks into ordinary life today.

🌱 CHOOSING JOY
Finding joy when life isn’t easy.

Over seven Sundays, we’ll be journeying through Paul’s letter to the Philippians and asking where a deeper, more lasting kind of joy might be found.

And you really don’t need to be a regular churchgoer to come along. You don’t need to know the Bible, know the songs or know what you believe. Just come as you are.

📅 Starting Sunday 6th September
🕥 10.30am
📍 St Mary Magdalene, Gorleston

There’s something for all ages, plenty of coffee, and a warm welcome waiting for you. 💙

🧠 When your head gets busy… remember what is true.

Life gives us plenty to think about — worries, frustrations, things going wrong, things we can’t control.

At the end of our Looking to God series on Sunday, Psalm 34 reminded us that following Jesus doesn’t mean pretending those things aren’t there.

But we can add something else. We can remind ourselves of what is true:

❤️ God loves me.
👂 God hears me.
🙏 God is with me.
🙌 God helps me.
🌟 God is good.

Perhaps those are five truths to carry with you into this week — especially when your head gets busy.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” — Psalm 34:8

🧠🚂 What’s filling your mind?

This morning we came to the final part of our Looking to God series, exploring Psalm 34 together.

With a little help from some brilliant volunteers, we built a train! 🚂

Thoughts → Feelings → Actions

We thought about how the things that fill our minds can affect how we feel and how we act. David (who wrote the Psalm) certainly didn’t pretend that life was always easy — Psalm 34 speaks about fear, trouble and needing help.

But in the middle of it all, David chose to remember what was true about God:

❤️ God loves me.
👂 God hears me.
🙏 God is with me.
🙌 God will help me.
🌟 God is good.

And we heard David’s wonderful invitation:

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” — Psalm 34:8

A lovely morning of worship, all-age fun and communion together — and a great way to finish our summer journey through the Psalms.

Whatever fills our minds in the week ahead, may we keep looking to God. ❤️

💪🌿 Young people making a difference!

It was brilliant to see some of our young people giving up some of their time during the summer holidays to help out a local resident with some jobs around their home and garden.

A huge thank you to Gabi from Identity Youth Project for coordinating the day, and especially to our young people for getting stuck in, working hard and serving someone in our local community. 🙌

We love seeing young people discovering that they can make a real difference right here where they live. ❤️

🧠 What’s filling your mind at the moment?

Something you’re looking forward to? Everything you need to get done? Or perhaps something you just can’t stop worrying about?

This Sunday we come to the final week of our summer series, Looking to God, exploring how the Psalms can help us with our mental and emotional wellbeing.

We’ll be looking at Psalm 34 and these wonderful words:

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” — Psalm 34:8

David doesn’t pretend that life is always easy. Instead, he reminds himself of what is true: God is good. God hears us. God helps us. God is with us.

It’s an All-Age Communion Service, with something for everyone, whether you’ve been coming to church for years, haven’t been for ages, or have never been before.
