SRB at SA international Congress, July 1978.
Does anyone remember the Salvation Army International Congress at Wembley on 8th July 1978?
The Solid Rock Band took part in the Severn Theatre venue. There were two performances in each venue – 6pm & 8pm and SRB gave two shows in each performance.
Attached is a picture of the programme plus photos of the band taken between the shows.

Solid Rock Band – Is this where it all started?
Here’s a picture of Gloucester Salvation Army Singing Company from the early 1960s. Three young SRB lads are on the front row (L to R), Colin, Spud & Cliff. I wonder if this is where they first learned to sing in harmony?
The picture was taken during rehearsal in the Gloucester SA Young People’s Hall.
Cliff & Colin need to pull their socks up!!
SRB started life in April 1964 under the name The 125’s (the register number of the Gloucester Corps). In those early days there was 1 piano (Cliff), 2 guitars (Spud & Colin) and 5 girl singers.

Solid Rock Band – Thirty Pieces (from the Footprints album).
Here is SRB’s Easter Song ‘Thirty Pieces’ from their 1979 ‘Footprints on the Water’ album.
Cliff (shown far right on the picture) takes the lead vocal in this song. The words are based on the Bible passage from Matthew Ch26: vs14-16. The rest of the SRB guys join for the vocal harmonies; the middle section words are pretty much a direct translation from the Bible in Lamentations Ch1 verse 12.
The lyrics remind us that Judas sold Jesus for thirty pieces of silver, and the song then challenges us with the line 'What about you, what about me?'

Solid Rock Band – Very Good Friend (from the Footprints album).

Here’s the final track on the Footprints album. The song ‘Very Good Friend’ closes side two.

The theme for the song comes from the Bible, Matthew Ch 28, verse 20. It’s a reminder that God is always with us. Have you discovered this ‘Very Good Friend’?

Cliff takes the lead vocal with the other SRB guys providing plenty of harmonies and other special effects.

Recording the Footprints album during August 1979 was a life-changing experience that brought the band closer together and they have remained close life-long friends.

See if you can hear the alarm clock at the beginning of the song over the words ‘every morning’.

Solid Rock Band – Sign of the Times (Footprints album).
Here's the 5th track from SRB’s Footprints album recorded in 1979. The haunting song 'Sign of the Times' is the last track on side one. Cliff takes the lead vocal with harmonies from the rest of the SRB guys.
The picture is from the 2019 40th anniversary Footprints reunion concert.
The idea for the song comes from the Bible, 1 Kings Ch 19, vs10-18. Elijah is concerned that all the people are turning away from God. But here we are over 2,000 years later and the church is alive, vibrant and still reaching out to those who feel lost or unloved.
God loves and cares for His people. Have you discovered that He loves you and has a plan for your life?

Solid Rock Band - Roundabout (Footprints album).

Here’s the song Roundabout from SRB’s Footprints album.

Colin takes the lead vocal with harmonies from the other SRB guys.
The vocal tracks were recorded very late into the evening. The guys have always loved the harmonies in the Beach Boys song ‘God only knows’ and they tried to create some of that in the vocal arrangement at the end of this song.

The theme for the song is from the Bible – Matthew Ch 4, verse 17. Maybe your life feels as though you’re on a roundabout, going around in circles and not getting anywhere. Well, take heart from the lyrics in this song – ‘You can have life with a brand-new start, and a purpose true can be in your heart. No matter what you’ve done, the Lord is the only one. Why can’t you see He still can set you free’.
