Final preparations are underway for the final Open Day for 2026, part of Moray Doors Open Day. Come and find these small details and more!

📅Saturday 5th September
⏰Drop in anytime between 1pm and 4pm.

We are one of many buildings taken part in Moray Doors Open Day this year - a great day to go exploring and discovering somewhere new in Moray.

The site, the seminary and areas of North and South Mill are and will be open as normal, outwith the open day. Open Days are an opportunity to see inside the areas we normally lock to help preserve the historic graffiti and/or the objects inside them.

One of our Committee Members, Ian Forbes, is running the 5km Chariots of Fire Beach Run in St Andrews on 31 May.

Ian is also a Trustee for of Blairs College Chapel and taking part (and all the training that is going into taking part) is all in aid of raising awareness and funds for the early-stage assessments of the Blairs College Chapel, helping to preserve the future of this spectacular building. The link with us here at Scalan is not only a contemporary one but also in that it can be said that Blairs has its historic roots with the Scalan from the setting up of the seminary here in the 1700s.

If you would like to find out more of the back story and support (and help encourage Ian across the line) you can do so via his Just Giving page:

If you would like to find out more about the plans and work on Blairs College Chapel, we would strongly encourage you to take a look at their page - of Blairs College Chapel - and give it a like and follow too!

Best of luck Ian! We'll be thinking of you on Sunday and will have the Chariots of Fire theme on loop to see you across the line 🏃🏼🏃🏼

Our Annual General Meeting is fast approaching, taking place on Sunday 14th June at 2pm.

This year we are trialling having the AGM at the Scalan to hopefully make it easier and more straightforward for members to attend. All our members should hopefully have received the most recent Scalan News newsletter which included the Agenda for the meeting amongst a broader update of what has been happening with the Scalan Association.

If you have not received this and feel you should have done, please send an email to [email protected] and we will happily look into it and get the information sent to you. Access to previous AGM meeting minutes and this year's agenda can also be found at the following link: www.scalan.net/downloads

If you are not a member of the Scalan Association and you are interested in joining, please send an email to [email protected].

We would like to take the time to wish all of our members, followers and supporters, near and far, all good wishes for 2026.

We hope everyone had and continues to have a peaceful time over the festive period. These snowy pictures of the Scalan were taken earlier in December with a beautiful winter sunlight.

This year has seen more visitors to the Scalan and the start of us finding out what maintenance work will likely be needed on the Seminary building in the coming years. We look forward to seeing what 2026 will bring.

It's hard to believe that it is just over three weeks ago that we celebrated the Scalan Annual Mass. Unlike last year we had wonderfully dry weather and the sun also made an appearance too.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and particular thanks to Fr Eddie McGee for leading the Mass and all who helped to make the Mass run smoothly.

We look forward to welcoming people back to the Annual Mass next year. We still plan to stick with the second Sunday in June, please do pencil in Sunday 14th June to your diaries.
