Glenboig Kirk Room avail for small groups, message this page Gartcosh is the only church building in a village and parish of 3400 (based on analysis of the 2011 Census) that has seen rapid growth in the last 10 years, with new houses being built on former farmland, an industrial site, and a hospital estate among others. There is also a new business park being constructed on the site of the old steelworks. The railway station was reopened in 2005. While the only church building, the local RC Parish is St Barbara's in Muirhead, and formerly there was a Scottish Episcopal congregation, St Andrews, which was closed and demolished, with the Church of St Paul and St John the Evangelist, Monklands (in Airdrie) serving the local area. Glenboig is one of three Churches (the others being Glenboig Christian Fellowship, and Our Lady & St Joseph's Catholic Church) in a village of 2900 (based on analysis of 2011 Census) that has also seen rapid growth in recent years. Again its new builds have been on farmland, and on the site of the old brickworks. Both parishes include several distinct communities:
Gartcosh Parish includes Mount Ellen and Gartloch Village as well as estates and areas within the village proper: Redrow, Wilsons, Bellway,

Glenboig Parish is formed of Annathill (Bedlay), Greenfoot, Marnoch, Ramoan as well as the original village (sometimes called Garnqueen) and newer estates like Redrow and Barratt.

Congratulations Gartcosh United , finally getting their first game on the new pitch at Gartcosh Works Social Club , great to see a big attendance with lots of the community coming out to support the community's club, especially as they go onwards and upwards into their new league. A privilege for me (Rev Dave) to be asked to speak and pray in advance of the kick off (and in a Gartcosh top too!), and well done on a dominant display against Livingston Community in this cup match - all the best to them in the rest of their season. Do support our local team if you can!

Join us for an evocative and thought-provoking event at Gartcosh Works Social Club.

On the 40th anniversary of the closure of the Gartcosh Cold Reduction Mill we will explore how the Mill influenced the lives and livelihoods of those connected to it. We will screen films of the works and workers, present stories and experiences, and reflect on the resilience of the village. With thanks to National Lottery players.
