Glastonbury Pilgrimage 2026 – “Mary, Mother of the Faithful”

Around a thousand pilgrims gathered in Glastonbury on Sunday 6th September for this year’s Glastonbury Pilgrimage, celebrated in warm sunshine throughout the day. Inspired by the Vatican’s recent doctrinal note Mater Populi Fidelis, the theme “Mary, Mother of the Faithful” reflected Mary’s closeness to the pilgrim People of God.

The day began with the Rosary in the Shrine Church, followed by the procession of the Statue of Our Lady of Glastonbury into the Abbey Grounds for veneration. Pilgrims spent time in silent adoration, received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and many joined the Youth Procession to Glastonbury Tor in memory of Blessed Richard Whiting and his companions.

During the morning and early afternoon, the Shrine’s Healing Team ministered to pilgrims, while others enjoyed the Abbey Grounds, visited the Repository stall, and shared refreshments and picnics in the sunshine.

In the afternoon, Bishop Bosco MacDonald led the Rosary Procession through the town, accompanied by clergy, civic dignitaries, the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, the Knights of St Columba, and ecumenical guests. The pilgrimage concluded with the Pilgrimage Mass in the Abbey Nave.

We extend our thanks to the Trustees and staff of Glastonbury Abbey, to our volunteers, and to all who supported this blessed day. Masses will be offered twice a year in the Shrine for the Intentions of the Patrons of the Pilgrimage.

Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Glastonbury
Mary – Mother of the Faithful
Sunday 6 September 2026

We look forward to welcoming pilgrims once again to Glastonbury for our annual Diocesan Pilgrimage, celebrated this year under the theme “Mary – Mother of the Faithful.”

The day begins in the Shrine Church, where we will pray the Rosary before the Statue of Our Lady of Glastonbury. The Statue will then be carried in procession into the Abbey Grounds. Confessions will be available in the Shrine during Exposition, and the Chapel of Healing Prayer will be open in the Abbey Grounds throughout the morning.

Pilgrims can visit the Shrine Repository tent for devotional items. You are warmly welcome to bring a picnic.

A youth procession to the Tor is planned for the morning.

In the early afternoon, we will gather for the Rosary Procession, making our way through the Abbey Grounds and down the High Street, returning for the Pilgrim Mass in the Nave of the Abbey Church, celebrated by Bishop Bosco.

May this day be one of grace, fellowship, and deep peace for all who come.
