Dennistoun Baptist Church

We are a growing church in the heart of Dennistoun in the east end of Glasgow. We gather each Sunday at 11am for a time of worship and fellowship!

There will be no Dennistoun Baptist Church service this Sunday (13 September) as it is our weekend away.

We look forward to all being back together next Sunday 20th September.

Here is a challenge from the Apostle Paul to believers who, once they have salvation in Christ, are passive, not seeking to bear fruit. God's lavish grace is available to us but we have a part to play in responding to the work of the Holy Spirit in us; embracing it, desiring to maximise its effect, and believing in its power to cultivate holiness in us and sustain us in our walk, through prayer, meditating on Scripture, and loving our church family, ultimately living life to the full in Christ.

We read in Daniel 3 of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were facing death in a furnace because they chose to honour God and not the false gods of those around them. Fast forward to the Garden of Gethsemane in Luke 22, and Christ, in his perfection, is also facing ex*****on.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's lives were spared for God's glory. Jesus had to die for God's glory.

May these examples of trusting in God for the right outcome in the most extreme of circumstances inspire us in our walk with the Lord.
Whatever we are facing, may we imitate the attitude of Christ and the faithful who have gone before us and say from the heart: 'Father not my will but yours be done'.

A worldly view of Christianity is often that it is a list of killjoy rules to follow, but in Psalm 19 the Psalmist David reveals that this perception is far from the truth. David reminds us that the precepts, or instruction, of the Lord actually brings gladness. His commands lead to a life filled with light because of the joy they provide.

Following the Lord does come with instruction, and there are consequences for not being obedient to God’s Word. But this isn’t because God has a heavy hand, but because He knows what is good for us and has laid it out in His Word. May we seek to know and live out the Lord’s Will, which leads to a joyful heart before Him!

How precious it is when a brother or sister in Christ says they are praying for you! To know that someone is fervently bringing you before the Lord is a special, unique blessing and a sign of the love the Holy Spirit brings among believers. And praise God that when we pray for each other we are following the wonderful example of our Saviour and His Spirit. It is an incredible gift to have their perfect intercession to the Father on our behalf. We can be certain these divine prayers are for our absolute good, as they align with the Father's will for us, ultimately our complete salvation!
