In the Old Testament, we saw that God had made a way for His people to be purified from sin — through the blood of animals. But this only worked for a short period of time, then they would have to come back and sacrifice for their forgiveness again. In the New Covenant, we have a greater sacrifice, Jesus Himself. He is a spotless sacrifice who offered himself so that we could be cleansed — and this brings an eternal forgiveness (v.26).

Then at the end of verse 14, we see a picture as to why He offered Himself: “so that we can serve the living God.” Jesus’ sacrifice is of great benefit to us, but it ultimately isn’t about us! We are cleansed from our sins so that our hearts are properly aligned to God. This invites us into serving him with hearts that are pure. When we recognise what Christ has done, how could we not want to accept this invitation to serve the Lord with a pure heart!

We are excited to share that our Holiday Club is back this summer from Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July! This will be a great time of games, crafts, snacks, music, and learning through Illumination Station! The club is open for all children who are going into P1 through to those who are leaving P7. We hope your kids will join us!

Peter chose to get out of the boat to experience a life in which he could be fully upheld by faith in Christ.

Some of us follow in his footsteps, but others of us are thrown out of the boat and into the water through circumstances, perhaps self-inflicted, perhaps not.

However we got there, the message of these verses is so clear: we have to fix our eyes on Jesus or we sink.

A walking-on-water faith is where God's power can be most displayed in our lives and we can have greatest dependence on — and closest fellowship with — Him.

And, if in our weakness we turn away from our Saviour through fear or distraction and start to go under, there is immediate, gracious, rescue when we call out to Him!
