The Glasgow Orange choir (notes from David Bryce)

Was formally instituted in Maitland Street orange halls on 11th of December by the then Grand Master Colonel A D McInnes Shaw, it went on to sing at various Orange halls churches.

Sister Flo Stevenson was the first choir mistress and organist followed by Bro George Irvine as choir master

My mother father and grandfather were all in it and my mother and grandfather prominent soloists Grandfather was vice chairman.

Bro Ian Fraser with thanks to Bro David Bryce’s notes

Somewhere in my house tho I can not find it there is a photo of the choir singing at Ibrox in which I think Churchill attended

Light has dawned

In the midst of time since the Ascension of Christ to the heavens, there has been both clarity and confusion on the Christian faith. The Council of Nicea took place 1700 years ago in 325 AD, offered clarity on the Trinity and the person and work of Christ.

However, since then, there has been confusion. The Reformation in Europe reformed the Christian faith back to Scriptural Christianity, based on the Bible, rather than tradition or the intermix of religion and power. It brought about a change from ritual and religion and culture to actual faith in Christ.

We can consider this historical event and the significant events of Martin Luther and others in reforming the Christian faith. We can share lots of graphics and copy lots of texts from social media. But what does it mean for us?

The Reformation calls for a reform of mankind’s hearts and minds. We are called to look at the history, but also to consider what it means for our faith in Christ. The Reformation brought clarity on the Christian faith – do we have a clear view of Christ. It brings a call upon our lives – do we understand the claims of Christ and our need of him. The Reformation calls for a response – what have we done with Christ’s revelation of our sin and the call of a Saviour?
