A poem for today

He wanted things done yesterday
Impatient through and through
But a wise old man once taught him
Patience was a great virtue

For one night in the winter
They both took a walk outside
And the old man stood amongst the trees
Beneath the darkened skies

He pointed to the night, saying
“Sometimes progress can be slow
For those stars were born to shine
More than a million years ago”

He pointed to a nearby tree
And said “its leaves are dead
But the tree will wait a few more months
To grow back what it’s shed”

He gestured all around him
And he said “this winter’s night
Will slowly, gently, gradually
Give way to summer light

‘Cause nature never rushes
For she trusts in what she knows:
That even at a steady pace
Things gather and they grow

So take advice from seasons
From the trees and from the skies
Trust - don’t rush - the process
For the process might need time

And watch the world around you
Learn that patience can be power
And not all in life must happen
At a million miles an hour”
