Hillhead Baptist Church

Hillhead Baptist Church We are an inclusive Baptist church in the West End of Glasgow. See our pinned post for more info We worship every Sunday at 11am.

For 140 years, Hillhead Baptist Church has been based in the heart of Glasgow's West End. Warmth of friendship and thoughtfulness in worship and preaching characterise our vibrant church community. Ranging in age from 0 to almost 100 years, we come from a wide range of backgrounds – socially, geographically (our church family currently includes 15 different nationalities!), and denominationally. I

n that, we are simply reflecting the amazing diversity and vitality of the West End of Glasgow where we are based. We are trying to follow Jesus and have chosen to help one another to do that by travelling through life together. We are an inclusive church, and you will find a welcome among us whatever your gender or sexuality. We are a registered Fairtrade Congregation and a member of Eco Congregation Scotland. Sunday Services are a hybrid format, with the option of meeting onsite, at the Glasgow Grosvenor Hotel, or online, via Zoom. Some weeks, due to room availability at the hotel, we meet on Zoom only. If you would like to join us on Zoom, or for more infomration about our church, please email our minister - [email protected]

Blog post of this morning's sermon by our Minister Rev. Laura Gilmour. Jesus heals to bleeding woman. Warning: contains the word menstruation. If her teenage son can sit through a sermon where his mum talks about menstruation and gynaecological pain, so can you!

From healing to wholeness

This morning's sermon at Hillhead Baptist Church involved playing music by Belle and Sebastian and reflecting on how music can both profoundly move us, and help us understand complex concepts such as the Trinity. And I found a new theologian. Book order incoming!

Because I'm likely to fall into heresy if I try to be too clever with doctrine!

Pentecost at Hillhead Baptist Church. Today we dressed in bright colours and didn't shy away from weirdness of this story, or the ways in which the church grew from these small beginnings. Listen back on our podcast (available on our website www.hillheadbaptist.org).

And no, I wasn't brave enough to wear my gold jumpsuit. Maybe next year!

With thanks to the work of Kat Armas 'Liturgies for Resisting Empire'.

Join us this Sunday at 11am as we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. We will be considering Acts 2: 1-21 where the Holy Spirit fills the disciples in a dramatic way. It's tradition to wear bright colours of red, yellow, orange and gold on this day, so feel free to come dressed in all your finery. Meet us in the Kibble Suite, Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor Hotel, G12.

The Poverty Truth Community have an exhibition on this week in the Byres Road Community Hub. Open Tues, Weds, Thurs it is a wonderful exhibition celebrating the Poverty Truth Community.

In conjunction with Edinburgh University they have collected stories, objects and memories of people involved in the community, telling of what it means to them to be part of it. Out of these stories, collages were created and made into a digital quilt. We learned from them today about welcome, fellowship and connection.

The theme is 'Come Away In', which we at Hillhead Baptist often use as a favourite communion hymn. The lyrics sing

🎵🎵'Come Away, Come Away In. Come Away, Come away in. The storm it is raging, but we'll hold back the wind. Come away, come away in.' 🎵🎵

Well worth a visit if you're in the West end in the next few days.
