From the MOST WORSHIPFUL GRAND MASTER of ENGLAND -
A wee personal message from me. Perhaps it would benefit others from sharing. The last few days have left me deeply moved and deeply troubled. The attacks on members of the Jewish faith in London have struck at something very personal for me. As all attacks against faith groups irrespective of their religion.
I know personally how difficult it is to be threatened as I have been in recent months for my public speaking as Grand Master. Although it pales into insignificance as to the recent attacks on others.
One should never have to fear for their safety because of their faith, their heritage, or their identity. It is painful to see anyone facing such darkness.
As I gather with brethren in Preston tonight, I am reminded of the strength that comes from our fellowship. When we meet as Orangemen, we do more than conduct business—we stand shoulder to shoulder, bound by principles that matter profoundly: liberty, dignity, and respect for all.
Tonight, those values feel especially important. As brethren, we must show—through our words and our actions—that hatred will never define who we are or what we stand for.
In moments like this, our unity becomes more than tradition. It becomes a witness. And I hope that witness brings comfort, strength, and a reminder that there are many who stand firmly against intolerance in all forms.
I thank God for his mercy and grace to me and the Institution we care for so deeply.
As the United States and the democratic world were reminded this week by our Sovereign Majesty Charles III of the Magna Carta which first set the principles that no one is above the law, to the bill of rights 1688-1689 which affirmed the liberties of subjects and placed limits on arbitrary power, our founding Orange tradition has always stood for the protection of fundamental freedoms.
The Preston Lodge and indeed the Loyal Orange Institution of England continues to uphold those principles founded centuries ago.
I for one thank God For It.
