Orange PR and recruitment.
How often have you heard churches, church youth organisations such as the BB and GB, loyal order clubs and lodges complain that it is impossible to remain sustainable because of demographics and changing times?! Nonsense!
What is often the cause of the decline is aged membership. Age on its own responsible for the decline, but with age comes apathy, tiredness, resistance to change and failure to embrace new ideas. I know that being 69.
But for all those who believe that decline of Orangeism is inevitable I point to the remarkable growth of Orange lodges in North Belfast, Stonehaven, Burnley and Whitehaven.
What sustains this growth is the drive of the leadership coupled with imaginative schemes to inform and engage the public. This incurs costs to the leadership in terms of time and money, but also brings significant rewards. Any lodge, club or preceptory facing the problems of modernity in sustaining growth should monitor the periodic media publications on the social media sites of Pendle Sons of Ulster LOL 25 and Whitehaven Loyal Sons of Ulster LOL 171.
The leadership of both these lodges engage with the local community to inform them about Orangeism, they market unionism to local people who have a relationship with the British army and the unionist past and they help show those outside the OO / Protestant community that Orangeism is no threat to them.
Should anyone have problems generating support or growing their membership, the Pendle and Whitehaven Orange lodges are an example worth pursuing.

From the MOST WORSHIPFUL GRAND MASTER of ENGLAND -
A wee personal message from me. Perhaps it would benefit others from sharing. The last few days have left me deeply moved and deeply troubled. The attacks on members of the Jewish faith in London have struck at something very personal for me. As all attacks against faith groups irrespective of their religion.
I know personally how difficult it is to be threatened as I have been in recent months for my public speaking as Grand Master. Although it pales into insignificance as to the recent attacks on others.
One should never have to fear for their safety because of their faith, their heritage, or their identity. It is painful to see anyone facing such darkness.
As I gather with brethren in Preston tonight, I am reminded of the strength that comes from our fellowship. When we meet as Orangemen, we do more than conduct business—we stand shoulder to shoulder, bound by principles that matter profoundly: liberty, dignity, and respect for all.
Tonight, those values feel especially important. As brethren, we must show—through our words and our actions—that hatred will never define who we are or what we stand for.
In moments like this, our unity becomes more than tradition. It becomes a witness. And I hope that witness brings comfort, strength, and a reminder that there are many who stand firmly against intolerance in all forms.
I thank God for his mercy and grace to me and the Institution we care for so deeply.
As the United States and the democratic world were reminded this week by our Sovereign Majesty Charles III of the Magna Carta which first set the principles that no one is above the law, to the bill of rights 1688-1689 which affirmed the liberties of subjects and placed limits on arbitrary power, our founding Orange tradition has always stood for the protection of fundamental freedoms.
The Preston Lodge and indeed the Loyal Orange Institution of England continues to uphold those principles founded centuries ago.
I for one thank God For It.

The 'Bingo / Quiz Night held last night in the Sandbank Social Club was not exactly 'oversubscribed' - a surprise to no one. It wound up fairly early, around 10.30 pm.
As was frequently pointed out by myself, it was only being ORGANISED by L.O.L. 131. The profits, if such there be, were EXCLUSIVELY for the benefit of the District Lodge. In the event, in view of the attendance, a relatively respectable profit was realised.
So, if anyone were hoping to harm or embarrass L.O.L. 131 by not participating, they were unsuccessful. The actual return was a surprise to me.
