The Shining Path of the Righteous
“If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 1 John 1.6.
There are many claims that people make that are not essentially true. According to John, when a person’s claim does not match their walk they are regarded as liars and imposters. God understands that we are all a work in progress in our walk with Him. But the path of the righteous can only shine brighter and brighter through daily choices aligned with God's commands, divine wisdom, and progressive spiritual growth (sanctification). For our walk to match our claim, we must learn to live according to God's principles and instructions. As we follow the lamp of his word daily we become a light to many and they follow our daily steps.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1.7.
God is eager to let His light shine upon His own children. He wants His glory seen upon them. We are His children, the sheep of His pasture, we belong to Him. A parent will be happy and proud to dress their child in the best attire for a special occasion. We want our child to look beautiful so we can be proud of them.
We are warned, “be careful how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise.” (Ephesians 5.15). We are not robots but humans with free will to make choices. God wants us to choose carefully and walk in His light, then He can arise over us, to let His glory seen. The opposite of walking in darkness is to walk in the Light. By coming to acknowledge Jesus Christ who is the true Light that lights everyone that comes into the world (John 1.9). Isaiah said, “O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the Lord.” (2.5). Jesus said boldly, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life”(John 8.12).
Biblically, walking connotes a lifestyle. Living a lifestyle of light means subscribing to the Scriptures and leading of the Spirit of God every day, taming the flesh with all its lusts and passions. We cannot be walking in the light and in darkness at the same time. “Now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5.😎.
Generation to generation is going from bad to worse. But God is looking for the remnants who will preserve the fear and the will of God as Noah did in his generation.
If we seek to walk in the light, even as work in progress in His hands, God is in the light and we come into fellowship with Him. Then the blood of Jesus His Son, purifies us from all sin. Seek to walk in His light daily, and as He does the purifying and perfecting, your path will keep shining. As your path is shining, your life is shining.
