There is a lot going on at Mass on Palm Sunday It’s a wonderful Mass but for our fellow parishioners (young and old) who are neuro-diverse it is a lot to cope with.
If that applies to you or someone you know, come and join us in a quieter, gentle celebration of Palm Sunday in St. Andrew’s Cathedral at 2.30.
Come as you are, bring whatever helps you to feel at home in God’s house and know that Our Lord and our little community are looking forward to welcoming you.

The Columba Trust was established in 1949 by Lord Colum Crichton-Stuart who wished to support Roman Catholics in the practice of their faith.

The Trust provides financial assistance in support of that aim and also for its' other purposes which include the advancement of education and the relief of poverty.

Lord Crichton-Stuart was concerned about the maintenance of Christian marriage, the support of single mothers and their children and the spiritual support of prisoners. Applications from organisations working in these areas are particularly welcome.

The Trustees are also keen to receive applications from organisations which foster a better understanding of the Catholic faith among young people and encourage their involvement in charitable activities.

Applications are now open.

The Columba Trust provides funding to organisations and individuals for projects which support the practice of the Roman Catholic faith, its ministry and values.

The deadline for applications this year is 30 June 2026.

Further details about the Trust and how to apply for a grant can be found at:

If anyone doubted the quiet revival in Catholicism across the Western world, then this picture is the answer.
This Easter will see 120 ‘new’ Catholics join the Church in the Archdiocese alone – a 20 per cent increase on last year.
The story is the same across Europe, with record numbers of new adult converts being reported in England, Ireland, France and Belgium.
Canon David Wallace, who oversees the RCIA programme for adults seeking to join the Church, said: “It was lovely to see the Cathedral filled with so many people who are hungry to know more about the faith and to live it fully in their daily lives.
“Here at the Cathedral we have been working with 13 adults as they grow in knowledge and faith and it has been a deeply rewarding experience as we accompany them now in this last phase of preparation before they are baptized or received into full communion at Easter.”
Archbishop Nolan said: “It is always one of the highlights of the year for me to preside at the Rite of Election and meet the new generation of people who have made the conscious and active decision to join the Church.
“Recent years have seen a steady growth in numbers, and each of these people can tell their own story of coming to faith, which in itself is an inspiration for us ‘cradle Catholics’.”

The Pope to every single parish: ‘Thank you for everything you will do to helpme help missionaries throughout the world’

On hearing news of the election of the new Pope, Archbishop Nolan said:

Habemus Papam … we have a Pope!

I share the joy of more than a billion Catholics around the world at the news that we have a new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV!

When a Pope dies, Catholics feel a real sense of loss; almost a sense of being orphaned. And so the arrival of a new Holy Father is news of great joy for us.

While I do not know the new Pope personally, I know that he was widely regarded as a fine pastor with experience as a missionary priest as a bishop in Peru and as a cardinal in the Vatican with responsibility for appointing bishops all over the world and that experience will be of great value in the tasks which await him.

He will not be a carbon copy of Pope Francis or any of his predecessors. He will be a man who brings his own gifts and experience to the Church and to the world and I look forward with a mixture of excitement and gratitude to the months and years ahead as we get to know and love our new Pope.

Does the wider public know what a priest does?

Does the wider public know what a priest does?

More than 675,000 Scots are Catholic, yet the role of a priest is changing. One young priest shares his experiences in an overwhelmingly secular society

May Our Holy Father rest in eternal peace. Please remember him in your prayers at this sad time.

The Holy Father died this morning.

On hearing news of the Pope’s death, Archbishop Nolan said:

“I share the sense of loss of millions of people around the globe at the passing of Pope Francis. Sadness is our first and most natural reaction at a time like this.

“The whole Church, and indeed the wider world should be very grateful to God for the gift of this Pope. Although his pontificate has been controversial at times it has been a blessing for the Church and for wider society.

“He will be remembered for many things … but his emphasis on the great love and mercy of God and his reminder to the Church that it should always bring God's mercy and love to all was perhaps his most repeated call.

“He did not see the Church as a tribunal sitting in judgement of the world, but rather what he called a ‘field hospital’ tending to the wounds and hurts of human beings.

“When he visited the Basilica of St Mary Major in Rome shortly after his election, he called out to the priests in the confessionals, ‘Mercy. Forgive everyone. Always mercy …’ and that was his trademark message.

“He used his ability to speak to people in a language they understood to great effect. That partly explains his huge popularity. He had no pomposity or sense of superiority about him, indeed he was forever asking people to pray for him.

“His constant call to governments and individuals to care for the earth, our common home, was a key strand of his message. Another was the ever-timely call to welcome the refugee and asylum seeker, and to recognise the human dignity of the poor and less fortunate.

“I remember his powerful exhortation to us … when we give alms to someone who is begging on the streets, not to casually toss a coin in their direction, but to get down to their level, to look them in the eye, to touch their hand and to express care and fraternal love.

“He was the Pope of mercy, the Pope of welcome and the Pope of the environment.

“He lived his life with faith in God. May God now welcome him into eternal life.”
