DAY 38: IMMEDIATE

When you know there’s something big in your life that you can’t control (even though you’d like to), don’t go through it alone. Ask someone you know and trust to speak truth into your life and use that to fuel your prayers. Things may or may not be resolved straight away, but the peace you receive will be immediate.

This week we’re celebrating gifts week.

In the Bible, at this time of year, God’s people were called to intentional joy. They remembered God liberating them from slavery in Egypt, generously blessing them as they left, caring for them during their journey, and leading them to the place God had promised for them. We remember Jesus’ fulfilment of this festival as we celebrate God’s grace, His generosity towards us and look forward to now eternal dwelling with Him.

So, we’re joining in to celebrate by spreading generosity and joy this week by giving gifts. Our aim is once per day, to do a small but mighty act of generosity to spread joy.

Sometimes God answers us in ways that we didn’t see coming, and at times we didn’t see coming. Although it can be normal to have to adjust to seeing things from God’s perspective, no matter when or how He answers, we can trust Him.

When we see God answer prayer – ours or others’ – it gives us confidence in Him. When we have confidence in Him, we are much more likely to pray bigger, bolder prayers and to step out in faith trusting that God has got us.

Monday 10th - Friday 14th we’ll be celebrating Gifts Week. At this time of year we like to add some extra intentionality to our generosity, and this year we’re doing that through gifts. We’re thinking of those simple yet effective, powerful yet bank-balance-friendly things. 

How about:
Paying for your pal’s (or the stranger next to you in line’s) coffee. 
O.T.T. tipping your barista, taxi driver, bar or restaurant staff.
Making a donation to your local food bank (or would appreciate your donations).
Making a donation of hot water bottles, hats, gloves etc. to Glasgow City Mission.
Buying a little something, something for a neighbour.

Life happens sometimes. And sometimes it happens all at once and even the smaller details feel like – or genuinely are – giant things that need God’s immediate intervention.
