Lovely to see Lesley Mowat, former Captain of 1st Aberdeen presenting a Rose Bowl in memory of her late Mother, Mrs Edith Mowat to Aberdeen Girls’ Brigade Both Lesley and her Mum have been stalwarts of Girls' Brigade over many, many decades. Lesley is pictured here with Karen Orchard, Commissioner, and Girls' Brigade Scotland's former Vice-President, Margaret Cooper. We give thanks for the many memories and the service given by Edith.

🐝 Yesterday, we held our annual Leaders’ Dedication Service and training afternoon as we prepare for our exciting new session.

During the service we were delighted to have a new trophy dedicated - the Edith Mowat Rose Bowl.

The new trophy honours Edith’s dedication and life long commitment to the Aberdeen Division and the previous 1st Aberdeen company, after she joined the Girls Guildry back in 1928 and worked her way up the ranks.

The Girls Guildry then became Girls Brigade Scotland and Edith took on many roles over the years including serving as the Divisional President for 6 years from 1976 to 1982.
She remained an Honorary Vice-President for the rest of her life, attending all Divisional Displays, AGMs and Parades.

Edith sadly passed away in December 2023 at the wonderful age of 105.

Her legacy within the organisation remains and with this new trophy, she will continue to be remembered for many generations to come.

We were delighted to welcome her daughter Lesley, also an Honorary Vice-President of Aberdeen Division, to yesterday’s service to hear a tribute to her Mum and see the new trophy being dedicated.

Congratulations to Ellie Rodger and Karyn Scotland, 1st Dalserf, from all at Girls' Brigade Scotland as they were commissioned yesterday and received their Queen's Awards. A wonderful start to the 1st Dalserf session with two new Leaders who have gained our highest award. Wishing both of you every blessing on your GB journey now and in the years to come.

Today we share this message from our National Chaplain, Jonathan Fleming, that he shared with his own congregation. The sentiments expressed are perfect for our young people today.

Today, thousands of people across Scotland will open an envelope, click a link, or refresh a screen waiting for letters and numbers to tell them how they did in this year’s SQA exams.

Some of them may be your children, grandchildren or great grandchildren.

It may be you…

It’s true to say that exam results don’t define you…

But let’s not pretend that helps much when you’re surrounded by pressure, comparison, nerves and anxiety…

Results day is a hard day, not because of what’s on the paper, but because of everything behind it. The late nights. The self-doubt. The fear of not being “enough.” And the quiet hope that maybe, just maybe, they have got the results they hoped for.

So today, whether people get what they wanted or not, may we remind our loved ones of this:

They are not their grades… they are the countless things that no exam could ever measure.

To everyone waiting for results… we see you and we are proud of you.

And no matter what that piece of paper/text message/email says, you’re already so much more than it can ever show.

We’re here for you today, tomorrow and always 🙏

Naomi, Ruth and Hannah Crockett, along with Tracy McCann, represented Clyde Division Girls Brigade at the Royal Garden Party on 30 June. They had a wonderful day and got to meet the Princess Royal and share with her about their service to GB and how they had completed Queen's Award and their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. A wonderful day indeed and it was great to see so many Girls' Brigade Scotland Companies in attendance.

Another great moment from the opening of the Scottish Parliament on Saturday, was to see Carol Ramsay, former Commissioner of Central Division and a Leader with 1st Grangemouth Girls' Brigade as a local champion for her area. Carol was accompanied by her long time friend, Alice Hamilton, also a former Commissioner and Leader at 1st Grangemouth. What a wonderful day for both ladies. Congratulations from all at Girls' Brigade Scotland.
