The Synod Moderator was pleased to be able to join the Scottish Episcopal Church for the opening day of their General Synod. Lindsey joined the Synod in supporting the Thursdays in Black campaign as she on many Thursdays. You can spot her towards the right- middle of the photo.

Synod members showed their support for 'Thursdays in Black' on day one of General Synod 2026 at the Stirling Court Hotel.

Members were invited to join with the Provincial Global Partnerships Committee and wear black to highlight the global movement urging an end to violence against women. Thursdays in Black encourages everyone, regardless of gender, to wear black every Thursday.

“Wearing black on Thursdays shows others that you are tired of putting up with violence, and calls for communities where we can all walk safely without fear; fear of being beaten up, fear of being verbally abused, fear of being r***d, fear of discrimination,” said Ms Miriam Weibye, Church Relations Officer.

“The Scottish Episcopal Church has promoted this peaceful form of protest against r**e and violence in Scotland since being introduced to Thursdays in Black through its partnerships in Brazil and India, and through its relationship with the World Council of Churches.”

The Synod Moderator was especially delighted to spend a morning with coffee and excellent gluten free brownies Infuse Community Cafe at Rutherglen United Reformed Church. The cafe is a new partnership project giving young adults with additional support needs the opportunity to run the cafe as part of a course at Glasgow Clyde College. The students bake the cakes at college and then are involved in serving customers teas and coffees, and are involved in clearing up and doing the dishes. The cafe also links with The M Factor, a youth group for young adults with additional support needs which also meets at Rutherglen URC. These new partnerships are part of the Community Ministry at the church to which John Sanderson was inducted in September 2025. Members of the congregation are aming those supporting the cafe which runs on the last Wednesday of the month.
