Today we were delighted to join the team at Scottish Asian Counselling Services (SACS) for a fantastic parenting workshop focused on supporting children in a challenging world.
A huge thank you to the SACS team and the brilliant facilitators for creating such a warm and welcoming space for discussion and learning.
Some practical takeaways included:
• Connection before correction – relationships come first.
• The 5 C’s: Connection, Communication, Consistency, Compassion and Curiosity.
• When conversations feel difficult: Pause, Listen, Validate, then Guide.
• Look for patterns, not single moments, when it comes to changes in a child’s wellbeing.
• The simple 7-7-7 rule – seven minutes in the morning, after school and before bed to reconnect.
• Put the phone down and be present during those key moments of connection.
• Ask “What’s going on?” before making assumptions.
• Remember that more listening than telling often leads to better conversations.
As parents continue to navigate challenges around social media, mental health, neurodiversity and the pressures facing young people, these kinds of conversations and support networks are more important than ever.
We’re looking forward to working with SACS on more sessions that help parents build confidence and support one another through the opportunities and challenges of modern family life. 💙
