Tomorrow June 3rd if the feast of St Charles Llwanga and his companions - martyrs of Uganda - and here's a story to warm your heart and make you even prouder of SCIAF. Fr Emmanuel, from Uganda, has family in the parish (Ruth & Rita are his cousins!) Last year we introduced him to SCIAF and that set in motion a grant to help install a well to provide clean water beside the parish school. The pictures show the poor conditions with people travelling too long for unlcean water; then the driling begins and - a miracle - fresh water in a brand new well! happy people having a first taste
Makes your heart swell with pride and gratitude for SCIAF and shows how even a wee box worth of cash can make a massive difference to people's lives. (This was a one-off project between the parish and st Charles school: See next post for videos)

At the end of the week we marked the final commital of Eddie Rice. Born in Lennox Castle, one of 3 boys, he was found to have additional learning needs. His dad, determined he would be independent and defend himself, enrolled him in Jimmy Murray’s boxing club at St George’s Cross - opening up a whole new world for Eddie. He loved his sport, fitness and boxing community. He became firm friends with Jim Watt - who got him a job at Reg Vardy - and developed a decent amateur record. Eddie was blessed with a lovely nature and broad smile but sadly dementia deprived him of his independence and he spent the last 5 years in riverside care home- sparring right to the last! Condolences to brothers Jackie and James - rest in eternal peace now, Eddie.
